Thinking Out Loud wrote: I'm in! Anyone have advice for someone who wants to lose weight but is on Synthroid for thyroid issues (mine was chemically destroyed due to Grave's Disease). I was told many years ago by my thyroid doctor that my metabolism is kept low with the Synthroid, if they increase it, my heart starts going crazy. Low metabolism means it is very hard to lose weight. This is one reason my weight has increased over the years (another is I love potatoes - fried, mashed, baked, etc.).
Misty - you are doing a wonderful job! I know you are proud of yourself!
a good answer after fast search

But I still think asking your doctor about what can eat and how much excercise be the best advice.

| Thanks. I've read/heard some of that before, but not all of it. Good information! I'm going to give it another try with this Challenge! I'll check again next time I visit the Doctor.

Hey I can't afford to lose any weight but I'm willing to help. Any of you that are worried about being tempted by that high calorie, high fat beer and want to avoid possibly "slipping" let me know and I'll come get it out of your way.

ok, maybe I missed it but is there a low card beer? If there is, does it taste like beer or beer flavored water?
Also... I have been without carbs and sugar for 48 hours now... I am telling you... I would do some crazy stuff for a french fry at this point!
I am craving sugar and carbs like it was some kind of drug!
Please tell me this craving goes away!
Also, I am starting to get a sick feeling when I look at meat...

You should be passing the magic moment and hitting ketosis ... this too shall pass. Your body is detoxing and switching over it's burning mechanism. You are going to start buring fat instead of carbs. http://www.atkins.com/articles/atkins-phases/phase-one/what-induction-can-do-for-you
Low carb beers are: Michelob Ultra=3, Bud Select is about the same, Miller Light is close too I think - but I'm not a Miller drinker. Those are the two lowest, unless you can drink Nattie Light, I think it's only about 3 too. Beer is typically not recommended during the first 2 weeks, but it will affect each person differently. My hubby NEVER gave up the beer and lost 50lbs. I tried to have mine in moderation.
One thing that is not advocated by Atkins, but has worked OK for millions is that you can have alcoholic beverages. Usually whiskeys or vodka, or anything without sugar, mixed with Diet Coke, Diet Sprite, etc.
Just remember your body will burn the alcohol/carbs off before it burns the fat.
We both started back on Sunday. He has lost 8lbs. I have lost 6 so far. Men tend to lose much better than women too.
It's hard, and I personally cannot do it ... but MOST weight loss experts, no matter what the diet is will tell you to weigh ONCE a week only - same time, same scales. Weight fluctuates daily, and ups/downs can be very pyschological. (I am slave to the scale.)
And one more hint of advice to everyone from Ole NewsChick here ... remember no matter what "diet" you choose, if you make it a "diet" you WILL gain back the weight when you come off the diet. Choose the PLAN that works for you, and make it you WOL (way of life).

Here here are some links for Low Carb recipes.
This is on the Atkins site: http://www.atkins.com/recipes
This one is one I have used for 2 years and I absolutely LOVE it. Linda has a great story that's well worth the read as well. http://genaw.com/lowcarb/

Atkins works....and you feel better...I know that carbs are not good for my body..
I always watch my carb intake...but it should not be a diet rather a way of life...
I mean...I eat fried eggs..bacon...butter..mayonnaise...cheese...steak...nuts..all kinds of good stuff...just watch the carbs and the weight will roll off
and no...my cholesterol is just fine...my weight is stable....once I realized that a high carb intake was the source of my weight gain...and all I have to do is watch my carbs...life got a whole lot easier and I feel much better...I have been eating the Atkins way for years....and when I slipped up and quit watching my carbs..I put on pounds...so I learned my lesson....now if I have spaghetti...I have whole wheat spaghetti...if I eat bread..I eat whole wheat bread...there are GOOD carbs...
Atkins...I highly recommend it to anyone serious about changing their eating habits and losing weight!

I am IN !! I started back on my Atkins on Sunday, and dropped 6lbs. I actually lost almost 50 last year, but gained 21 back. My short term goal is to drop the 15lb I gained back ... then I'll deal with the remainder of my goal. I have tried ALL the diets and lifestyles, but Atkins is the only one that works for me. So, as long as we can do our own plan, I'll bite for the challenge. HOWEVER, I refuse to post my weight, etc. ONLINE for all to see. Heck, seeing ME is bad enough .... but NO way will I post the #'s.

Oh yea...make sure you follow the atkins diet plan and add your carbs back in slowly
I do recommend reading the book...and following the guidelines...
fried pork rinds are good for snacking...0 carbs
deviled eggs...yummy and no carbs
you can buy the sticks that you pee on...it turns purple when you are burning fat...I used to always love seeing my stick turn purple

I am with you on ALL this, including your other Atkins post as well. You have to monitor and you have to add the carbs back in. I have several of the books, and I agree you MUST read the book to "get it".
Cogs, are you by any chance on LowCarbFriends.com ?
