Well, yea, that is me too! LOL But like, this past week, Kris and I went to Texas Roadhouse. I had a 10 oz Ribeye, a Salad, Green Beans, and a Corona, also a Roll.
So yea, it's just watching what you eat, how much of it you eat, and controlling yourself!

My short term goal is to drop the 15lb I gained back ... then I'll deal with the remainder of my goal. I have tried ALL the diets and lifestyles, but Atkins is the only one that works for me. So, as long as we can do our own plan, I'll bite for the challenge. HOWEVER, I refuse to post my weight, etc. ONLINE for all to see. Heck, seeing ME is bad enough .... but NO way will I post the #'s.
NewsChick: I quit smoking about a year and a half ago and put on an extra 20 pounds in what seemed like overnight. LOL. I did the Atkins diet for about a month and the weight came off really fast. My husband stayed on it for several months and he lost about 35 pounds!!! Unfortunately, Atkins is just too restrictive for me and I have since started the South Beach Diet several weeks ago. I've just about reached my goal already so I'm not going to join the rest of you for the challenge, but good luck to everybody!

I did the Low-Carb Atkins Diet right before my Wedding and lost close to 60 lbs and lost it FAST. I think the first week, I lost 14 lbs. Not kidding. My Dad lost 11 his first week.
Bad news, once you stop, it comes back 3-Fold. LOL Other Bad news, all the fats and greases from the meats, cholesterol from the dairy, all of it is a heart attack waiting to happen.

I think it can be different for some people. Many people I know that have done this actually have better bloodwork now than before. If you stop and do not follow the maintenance plan, then you are absolutely correct, it will come right back. However, I think the same would hold true to any diet. As with WW, if you up your caloric intake back to pre-diet figures, I bet the weight will come back too. I think it works differently for each person, and you gotta find what works for you. If you do Atkins though, it is of upmost importance that you never drop below 20 carbs a day and that you get those carbs from green veggies and other allowed foods. Back when I was in the "zone", I could have 35 carbs a day and I was still losing weight. If you just eat meat/eggs/cheese ... yep, you're in for a dangerous ride.

| I will offer some general advice...... DO NOT get all hung up on the scale and the exact number of pounds lost... although, I do realize that this is a competition. If someone is exercising hard and building muscle, it is very common to actually GAIN weight from time-to-time since muscle weighs more than fat. Focus more on inches lost.... For instance, how do your clothes fit, etc.? My 2 cents.

Excellent advice. You might find your clothes fitting better and the scale not changing or showing a higher weight. A new wardrobe (it's already there but doesn't fit well) will be a prize for me.

"Muscle weighs more than fat."
That is a Myth. Muscle does not weigh more than fat, any more than lead weighs more than feathers. Muscle weighs the same as fat, a pound of rocks weighs the same as a pound of feathers. A pound is a pound is a pound. Where the misunderstanding often comes in is that muscle is much more dense than fat, so that, by volume, it seems to weigh more. That is, a pound of muscle occupies less space than a pound of fat. Also, because a pound of muscle burns more fat than a pound of fat, even at rest, by increasing your lean muscle tissue mass, you're helping your body burn more calories.
Muscle looks Nicer, but they weigh the same...

I'm in! Anyone have advice for someone who wants to lose weight but is on Synthroid for thyroid issues (mine was chemically destroyed due to Grave's Disease). I was told many years ago by my thyroid doctor that my metabolism is kept low with the Synthroid, if they increase it, my heart starts going crazy. Low metabolism means it is very hard to lose weight. This is one reason my weight has increased over the years (another is I love potatoes - fried, mashed, baked, etc.).
Misty - you are doing a wonderful job! I know you are proud of yourself!
