Something I posted in the Does Lindale need a fire station thread:
I don't get it, if they talk about moving it, the citizens in the area get upset and they (the county) change their minds. What about the citizens in the Ridgewood, Silver Creek cluster?
Let's see the population of Wax is pretty low compared to the Ridgewood/Silver Creek area.
Leaves me with one question. Who lives in the Wax area that has a lot of political influence? Hmmmmmm
Seems like Hwy 101 near Preacher Smith Road might be a really good spot for Station 11.
Downtown Lindale would be a good spot for Station 12.
Station 13 looks pretty good past Cunningham Road.
Station 14 would be great on Hwy 140.
Station 15 on Hwy 100.
Oh, I am sorry I was in fantasyland, that sort of thing only happens in a progressive county.

I asked my tech folks and they said it should not affect the loading because they are so small.

Maybe I misunderstood what this thread was about.
All it is doing is repeating what was covered in other places. Sounds to me an attempt not to face the reasons why RFD is where it is today. I am calling out to those who are leading this department to explain what efforts are being made to move this department forward and catch up with the rest of the state of Georgia. I dont consider this bashing anyone.

Be careful fudge.........we don't want to hurt someone's feelings.
So what if it's 1968 at RFD HQ.

This is a way to bring it to the publics eye in hope to have them start asking questions to those in which they place in office. And I see no one being trashed, unless I missed something. He knows there are problems with the department. He knows where the problems stem from and what should be done about it. Where does he think they stem from and what does he think should be done? Or is he in agreement to what has been said here.
Everyone I have came into contact with has been very loyal to the department even though they all admit there are problems and they don't know if they will ever get any change, they maintain their loyalty.
The RFD firefighters loyalty is not in question here. I would expect any of them to stand up for the Dept. Change can happen look elsewhere in the county, though that is still in early stages.

Those would be some great locations. The problem is that you cannot see the Rome City limit signs.

I am wondering why it is that these guys are wanting to talk but through someone else? Could it be because of retaliation. Im sorry that was somewhere else.
In all seriousness any one who knows me can call me I will be your voice and will not expose any ones identity. I know how you all feel I was there.

Fudge, That's why I wanted this topic solely on the dept.. So you don't have to search thru other topics to find info. It will be all right here. And ask the tough questions. Thats what this is about. It will lead where it will lead. If you point out the difference in service and resources that others get, then hopefully you'll get the attention of the citizens and elected officials. I believe your a citizen and taxpayer, so have at it. But lets keep the snide, smart-alec, pointed remarks that some want to throw in at the end of each paragraph and reply completely out of this and have an amicable adult discussion.

Exactly what I want also. But he needs to get on here and state his opinions, yea or nay. Stand up brother and speak for yourself. Lets hear from all sides of the topic. We need as many RFD personnel as possible to speak on behalf of their department. If your for change, say it. Keep the status quo, say it. Its their careers. If you know some, call them up and tell them to reply. This forum by RNW is a great resource for everyone. FREEDOM OF SPEECH. But again, DON"T BASH PEOPLE. Thats counter-productive to whats needed.

Good Evening Old Guy and the rest,
Don't misunderstand my previous post about the lack of a RIT at emergency scenes. I KNOW HOW to field one, several ways , in fact. The point is/was that the RFD has never and probably never will have a crew of FFs just "standing around waiting for something to happen". It's not in their philosphy and we will probably never have enough FFs/companies. Ex... if the BC is working a three engine fire, and tries to bring in another engine for a RIT then he is committing an additional 10% of the total on duty force, denuding other parts of the county of protection. The administration, faced with a choice of a RIT or leaving part of the county unprotected, will go without the RIT everytime. The only way to have both is expansion of the FD, more FFs and more companies. Expand the Department by 20% and put in a new administration that is interested in a modern Fire Department and you would see a great deal of difference in a lot of areas pertaining to the Fire Service.
Everyone, there has been some amount of talk here about not bashing people and the like. My question is ...what do the moderators, or whoever, consider bashing? I haven't read everything closely, but have seen very few names mentioned and most of those were in passing. Is it bashing to point out problems, and who is responsible for them? Is it bashing to point out things that you have seen, or heard, or been privy to or part of? What are the guidelines here? If all we're going to do is be "politically correct" and not hurt anyone's feelings, then what is the point of it all?
I have conversations with Firefighters all the time, and most are very loyal to the department and do not want to see the department sullied or "drug through the mud". I tend to agree with that, but seems to me that what is being done and said here is doing very little of that compared to what is being done in other places by high ranking individuals. Putting the FD in the position it is currently in is much more detrimental to our good name than the comments on "RomeWired". Change/improvement of any kind, anywhere, can not be acheived until problems and their cause is pointed out.
So disheartening to read the pay/benefits/retirement facts from FireMedic. Admittedly, Rome /FC is much smaller in terms of taxes etc.... but man, John Bennett and the City could do better by us, if they wanted to.
Cheers,
Turk

Evening everyone,
Don't confuse loyalty to the Fire Department with loyalty to the ones who are "leading" it. Two different things and is some cases one is often in contradiction with the other. Most of the Firefighters I talk with would have no problem losing their "leaders" to make the department better
Cheers,
Turk

All of the above was in another thread but some one stated that what is being covered here should have its own place. So Leatherhead started one.

Is there any thing that I have said that is not true. Sounds if though I hit a nerve in my last little remarks. But if the shoe fits, dont get just one try on the other.

You might want to remind everyone that is following this and posting to read back over from where they left off. It may help stuff getting repeated over and over, questions asked that were already addressed and help keep it on topic. Just a thought.

I do believe that everything I have said so far is true. So I might as well keep on pouring the facts. Here is my explanation on why people will not come forward.
In a meeting years back we were discussing who we would collect money for. At that time we were out about once a month collecting money for some cause. We were going to only collect for 3 charities not including ringing the bell at christmas for salvation army. A captain spoke up and ask what if you did not agree with the charitys selected because you do not believe in how they spend the monies. The answer given to him shocked me and thinking about it now reminds me of what leadership, respect, integrity, and other traits that I had learned in my years was thrown out the window by these people. The answer was this, and I quote" Captain, if I tell you to stand on your head and stack BBs, guess what? You will stand on your head and stack BBs.Understand?" end quote. I remember that today as if it just happened2 minutes ago. By the way the Captain got the message and was quite the rest of the meeting.
Also during that meeting raises and new equipment were being discussed. Something to the effect that we needed to take care of what we have due to the city was having problems with the budget. Just so happens that the day before Stonebridge reported ( not sure of the exact $) 1,000,000 loss. So this Sergeant makes a statement along the lines of selling the golf course, and he is asked how close to retirement he is. He understood the point also and was quite the rest of the meeting.
I actually made 2 points with this. 1. People will not come forward and speak because BBs are hard to stack. 2. This shows that it is a time for change up top. This all happened about ten years ago and is still happening today when people ask for improvements. No wonder morale is low with this type of RESPECT going on.
If this is not true call me out I here. You cant fix what is broke with out removing the already damaged pieces.
