| Ok, I'll start it! I am tired of us not getting paid like we should be! They keep doing pay studies comparing us to county's of the same size but do not take into consideration that the metro atlanta area is sucking us dry! we can't keep good people for them leaving and going to Atlanta, Cobb, Fulton, sandy Springs and gwinett.

Anyone know what Dalton's pay is?
They seem somewhat progressive ....to me an outsider.

| What do you mean bringing an empty cooler to a dog and pony show. I thought you knew better than that.

Good evening everyone,
Let me jump in here with some thoughts about the RFD and it's lack of progress.
The failings of any organization can only be laid at the feet of the people who run it. We have an administraion that is against our participation in EMS. These same "leaders" are so afraid of "being liable" for something that their way out is to not do it and bury their heads in the sand. For example...Their thoughts are that they are less liable if we have ALL personnel trained for 8 hours in rope rescue rather than to have a motivated, highly trained rope rescue made up of men who are interested in going that job. Which makes more sense, and more importantly... which group would be more likely to do the job correctly.
Have you ever heard the Chief say..... Why should I go across the street and ask for raises? I ALREADY MAKE MORE MONEY THAN I HAVE TIME TO SPEND. A leader who won't "fight" for better conditions for his men isn't much of a leader.
Suppose any of the above could be a reason for lack of progress?
Ever attend a meeting where the Chief running it tells you that if you don't like something that..."Cobb County (or whoever) is hiring, go to work there." Ever been cursed at or called a name by this same chief in a meeting? Had your job threatened over nothing? Well, if you haven't you're lucky. I have been in both large meetings and small and heard it many times.
What about the other chief.... what exactly does he do? All he is trying to do is stay under the radar and get out as quick as he can.
This group so throughly misunderstood the ADA act that we had a Fire Station built with a shower to accomodate disabled persons and even worse...the physical testing aspect of our hiring proceedure was done away with for a number of years for this same reason.
Remember all that extra training and equipment we got after 9/11? All the other departments in the state were getting new haz- mat and other equipment, sending their personnel to the GPSTC for additional training etc.... we got a 3-4 hour class, a ser of bar-b-q tongs and a box of zip-lock type bags. Yes sir, we are the best of the best!!
If you are a Rome Firefighter... you know these things to be true (If you have been on the job for very long) So you also know that there are many other instances that point to the main problem with our falling behind every other major department in the state.
A complete "beheading" of the department and promotion/ hiring of a new chief who knows what his job is and will do it. That should get us back on the the right track.
Cheers,
Turk

Based on what I have heard/learned of the department, this is the absolute truth. I'm glad there are firefighters here that are speaking out about what REALLY goes on.

| You got that right. A full clean sweep of the department would get rid of the dead wood we have got. Some of these old dudes just need to go. I would like to get promoted without having to wait for somebody to die.
