The person who is to blame is the head of security, he has allowed the hospital admin to make his security staff into couriers, and he has the option of hiring 50's, 60's, and 70's age people because of what the hospital allows him to pay his staff. Do the Employees of FMC want real security or window dressing? It has to be either or, not both!
FMC has long thought that they were above the law and untouchable by lawsuit. That is why it took them forever to get cameras in the deck. It took several thousands of dollars in vandalisms and theft(which they were not responsible for of course) and several rapes to get cameras.
*When a employer forces its employees to park in a remote location (parking deck) and punishes them for parking elsewhere, they are creating a special duty to protect.
FMC has often been confused and thought that Hospital policy trumphs Local, state, and federal law.
Corporate Arrogance!

I worked second shift at FMC in the late 90's. My car was broken into one night (by a security guard who was working in the deck nonetheless!) and I asked for security to walk me out because I was scared to go out at midnight by myself. An elderly man walked me to my car. As we were walking, I thought I would have to STILL protect myself if someone wanted to attack me. There is no way that this old man would be able to do anything if something happened.
I recently talked to a guy who used to work where I do now. He started at FMC a few months ago and he told me that he was desperately trying to get on disability due to heart and foot problems. Why is he a security guard? He could possibly have a heart attack while trying to do anything related to his job. Too scary!
Three little words - CONCEALED WEAPONS PERMIT.

I've never liked that parking deck. It's scarey to walk in there and no one else is around!!

If your attacked make a lot of noise SCREAM to the top of your lungs. Attract attention. If it gets worse use the acronym BRASSF! repeat if necessary. Remember only let one story be told.

I agree. It feels particularly bad at night.

Good Luck, ever though the No Firearm signs have no legal weight(you must be asked to leave, and then if you dont it is criminal trespassing), The way Floyd is set-up, it could be considered a Publicly Operated building, OFF LIMITS. Welcome to GA's crazy gun laws.

| People should know what they are talking about before they start dogging someone else. I know people who have been working for FMC Security for a very long time. They are not only responsible people but are very professional people as well. Every department in the hospital has a budget. So do they. They can only hire within their budget. Most people need to make more than minumum wage. Also, they have never lost a patient in the ER and they have always helped whenever needed in the ER. Don't be so critical of things you know nothing about. I have always felt safe at FMC when I have had to come to visit or as a patient. You want to talk about their uniforms. They didn't pick them out. I could say more, but I won't. Let me just say this though. Keep up the good work FMC Security. Some people can't feel good about themselves unless they are giving someone else a hard time.

| By the way there has never been a rape in the parking deck. That rumor has been going around for 20 years. Check your police reports.

I don't know enough about the security ppl working for FMC, to post about that.
All I know is, the parking deck isn't the safest place to be. Seems like there are alot of break-in's, etc.. I don't know what the answer to that one would be.
I do remember that rumor going around. That's all it was, a rumor.

| Parking decks are creepy places. However, I just visited another hospital in another state and there was no sign of any officers at all. Not just in the deck, but the whole hospital. I never saw one security officer. At least Floyd's officers are visible. Sounds to me like someone just got mad about something and decided to just rake them over the coals.

I believe some took my comments out of context.
I never said there were any rapes in the parking deck. To my knowledge there has been none.
The intention of this thread is to bring attention to the lowering of standards in the security department over the last several years. Which in turn makes Floyd an unsafe place to work and be a patient. Everything I said in my first post is the truth and stems directly from the top two people in the security department and/or whoever is over them. To be more specific, out of the 20 or 30 employees in the department there are only 5 that I have found who are qualified to do the job. However, they are not allowed to make decisions for the department. I wish no ill will on them and hope that they will not suffer for their superiors' stupidity.
I don't think police officers with guns or security guards with guns are needed in a hospital. Guns do not belong in a hospital. Period.
Since first posting this thread I have got more information:
At Floyd guards are paid less than any security agency in this area.
There is no special training involved or needed to be a security guard.

| Although their is not special training their are officers their who have had a lot of training in different areas. Their are officers that have gone out of their way to be certified to ensure the patients and employees are taken care of. I do know some of these officers and they are professional, take their jobs seriously and are truely trying to be an asset to FMC. Their hands are tied. They just need to be heard and taken seriously.
