I see that they are rushing to get them in by the 1st of July so as to avoid the new law going into effect that says that you have to prove the cameras are needed.

| Hell I hate that corner and doubt it will help, but if it does I will be all for it.

Me too, Deaglos! I travel that way almost daily, and hate it. I believe I read recently that it is the most dangerous intersection in Rome/Floyd County, so seems like that would be proof to me! I don't run red lights if I can help it, so they get no cash from me (although my husband has gotten a ticket from the K-Mart light!!).

I've never really understood the outrage that folks have against the red light cameras....................................I know the mentality, because some dude on channel 5 news summed it up nicely "They should have to catch you red handed, a real, live police officer, not some camera"..............which of course means "there are only a few officers on the road at any given time, and there are a hundred red lights, I like my chances of getting away with breaking the law without the cameras.........to heck with safety...."
Are people outraged that the law is enforced?
Are people outraged that they get caught?
Are people outraged that government actually implements a program that works for once? and makes sense?
If a real police officer catches you, you get a fine and points on your license.......when the red light camera catches you, you only get a fine......................seems like they're cutting you a deal for depriving you of your constitutional right to have a person to complain to as you're getting the ticket..........................

admittedly a sore spot with me. I am too old school I guess. I like the idea of a real live cop catching the real live offender. can't help it, just the way I am, I admit I'm a dinosaur

Red light cameras bypass due process, which is unconstitutional. Think about this:
Let's say it's the family car, or your kid takes the car, or for whatever reason, whoever the car is registered to isn't the one driving. Flash goes the camera, who does the ticket get mailed to? Voila, guilty until proven innocent. That is un-American. Just sayin'.
There are several other reasons I hate those cameras. They don't "work" like many people think they do. They actually make intersections more dangerous. Just speaking from the statistics I've read and my experience as a motorcyclist. Just sayin'.

often repeated myth...................if you're not driving, you simply sign a form saying that you weren't driving and who was if you know.....................................simple as that...............................(although I will admit that this rewards those willing to lie, and punishes those who are honest)........
as far as the more dangerous intersection part............I haven't made my mind up on that.........................................the # of accidents increased, the # of injuries decreased..................

Why should I have to go through the trouble, take a day off work just to go sign a form if I didn't do anything? I believe that's one of the reasons the founding brothers fought a big war way back in the day, to be innocent until proven guiilty.
I guess I'm just a pedantic you-know-what, but rights matter to me.

lol liberator.................great use of pedantic............
BUT, if a real police officer wrongly charges you with running a red light, you have to do the same thing..............................due process does not mean you won't be inconvenienced........................................

The main point is it is a digital world, and will only get more digital.
so we might as well get used to it.
