I just want to say that I went a week or so ago so my reference is not OLD. Those lifeguards show NO AUTHORITY while on duty and it's that simple. There should be an age limit on bringing kids and dropping them off w/o ADULT supervision and 13 would be a good age to start. Also, if there is an age, it needs to be enforced. I did see several people swimming in clothes and I saw people EATING in the pool (kids) and I saw babies swimming w/o swimming diapers.
Please note that I did mention a kid being escorted out of the pool by an older lady, not sure what her position is at the pool but she was walking around a lot so she much not be a lifeguard. Anyway, there were about 20 others that needed to be sat out or made to leave and that wasn't happening. Besides when the lifeguards KEEP reminding kids to stop running, it does no good. You have to be firm with them, if they run, warn them, if they run again, sit them down, if they run again, send them home. Believe me, that will work.
My personal experience is that those lifeguards are timid or afraid to be confrontational with those not following the rules. It appears they are intimiated for some reason. It is NOT a safe, friendly, family environment, at least not on the weekends. I haven't been during the week but my daugther did say that when she went with camp it wasn't as crowded. She's only 6 so not sure if she really understands what crowded means or not. That's just what she told me.
For the record, we won't be going back and it's not because of the people that frequent the pool, it's because the authority provided is useless. Those people do what they want to do and a lot of people in water not following rules spells disaster to me.

I agree that children should be made to follow the rules. I'm not saying that. My comment about what happened 2-5 yrs ago was not directed at you but the person who was talking about things that happened 2-5 yrs ago.
FYI - I am not a lifeguard. I go to the pool to swim just like everyone else.
I read your first post again and realized that you actually stayed for 3 hours. If the conditions were that bad, I would have left after 15 minutes. It was obviously not bad enough for you to get your kids and leave.
If you do not approve of the methods and actions of the employees when you are there, why on earth would you let your six year old attend without you?

I'm not saying the environment wasn't tolerable. I took my daughter and a friend there for the day to swim. I didn't go by myself, observe the chaois and then go back home and bring my daughter back to be a part of it. She actually went with me for the FIRST time this summer. It also took time for the pool to get crowded and the obnoxious behavior to begin. I observed the surroundings the entire time I was there and 3 hours isn't THAT long.
Trust me, I will quickly remove my children from any unsafe situation and that is why we will not be going back UNLESS some things change.
If you frequent that pool it is either because you are a lifeguard, friends with one of the lifeguards or you are one of the unruly ones that just love that place.
It's NOT a family environment!
Edited to say that I didn't leave right away because "I" controlled the two kids that were bothering my daughter, not the PAID lifeguards. I'm also not easily intimidated and if I am hired to do a job, I would do it.

Actually I don't even know the lifeguards. They have never had a reason to speak to me as I am not unruly. I have seen them take action with the ones that are causing trouble. That is what I am saying. I pay my money when I go in and leave when I am done. I go to cool off and lay in the sun. I don't go down the slide so I have no contact with the lifeguards there either.
I am not trying to start an argument or mud slinging contest with you so it is not necessary for you to call me "unruly". We just need to agree to disagree on this
You had a bad experience and unfortunately for your and your child, you don't feel that you can utilize the pool any longer. That is a shame.

You can't honestly say you would take a family there for a fun day the pool. And for the record, I didn't CALL you anything, you chose one of the three options I gave, not me. I don't know you but I know that anyone with common sense isn't going to think that pool is a great, fun, safe, entertaining place to take your family. THAT is my point.
It's disfunctional with no authority and kids playing in/around water without that could lead to disaster.
I agree.............we disagree!

Can't say I've ever been there? Is it a pool, camp site, park or something? We don't really do lake or river swimming, etc. I got to see the bottom if I'm swimming in it.....
I know, I'm weird! Go figure!

I have been to Rocky Mountain and as one of the other members stated, it is not a great place to go. There are people smoking on the beach and in the water. It isn't that great, and with gas prices as high as they are, you have to consider how far the drive is.

| It is a lake and it is mostly used for fishing. The time I went, we actually camped and went to the beach to swim and there were dead fish floating in the water. Yuck!

We went to the city pool on Monday and again on Tuesday and we had a great time. There was no where near 150 people though. The lifeguards were on top of things and I felt sorry for them. They rotated out and the poor lifeguard by the end of the slide has his/her hands full but they stayed right on top of it. They were actually putting people in time out yesterday because some people thought walk walk..WAAALK meant everyone but them. I noticed that yesterday and it drove me crazy. They would yell get off the rope GET OFF THE ROPE and finally the offender would get off the rope and then 2 seconds later another child that was standing right there and heard the whole thing would get on the rope. Finally I asked one of the kids (12 or so and after the 30th time I saw it) why he thought get off the rope pertained to everyone but him? He just looked at me. I said seriously..why does get off the rope not pertain to you. Are you special? He said NO. I said then why did you get on the rope the minute the other people got off? He said dont know and walked away. They were also calling people out that were jumping in and rough housing on both days. I think this falls under umpiring for the rec, y, or levee. Wouldnt want the job. Yesterday one of the lifeguards made a boy leave because he was 12 and he had no adult supervision.
anyway, I am not saying that what happened to you didnt happen or you are blowing it up. I heard there is a big difference between the weekend and the week. Also, if you go during the week, go around 2 because the camps leave at 3 and its really peaceful with no line for the slide from 3-5. When it comes to swimming and my child's safety, I will call another kid out and I did yesterday. If the parent has a problem, too bad. Its not the lifeguards job to make people behave and they dont get paid enough for that. I think if someone is misbehaving and it can be harmful then yea. The women that came with the camp yesterday were very diligent and made those kids mind. They had 53 kids and 6 of them but they were right on top of it. It just all depends I think. But try through the week. I heard Wednesdays were no camp days also.

first off i would like to say that i am new to romenewswired.com, and i love the stories covered and the forums. also i attend the "city pool" at least twice a week and i have had nothing except great weather and great experiences, and so have my children. i have witnessed the lifeguards jump in and pull out children that were in need of help, and i have seen the lifeguards discipline children. as far as Sweetapril73's statements go i enjoy taking my family there.i believe it is a great family place and my kids have a blast; i have a blast. and unlike sweetapril73 i will continue to have a fun time there.
