Okay well, we visited the city pool yesterday, my 6 year old, her friend and I and it was terrible for numerous reasons.
First of all it was OVERCROWDED! Second, it was overcrowded with children WITHOUT parents. And lastly, the lifeguards there are a JOKE! The exhibit NO AUTHORITY at all over those they are responsible for and in fact, they seemed scared to "call out" or "sit down" those children who were not following the pool rules.
Another mother and I were there for about 3 hours and we witnessed one lifeguard chatting with someone in the pool for about 30-45 solid. Now how could she possibly be watching swimmers? She wasn't. Then the mother that was sitting with me saw children on the way to the slide pushing and shoving the little ones out of their way so she went to make the lifeguard aware of the situation. The lifeguard's response was, "it seems like your son is okay now and besides these kids don't listen to us". I was totally shocked. Even if I felt that way, I would have NEVER said that to a parent.
The RFPRA has done a great job updating the pool area for the community however, they really should not hire "young timid women" to oversee the kind of population that frequents that pool. I did see one lady escorting a boy out of the pool but he was arguing with her the entire time and yelling out how he didn't know why he was being asked to leave and if she wanted him to leave then she better be prepared to give him back his money. This went on for about 10 minutes or so. Easy solution, call the police and have him removed that way. It was completely inappropriate behavior on this young man's part. (He was probably about 15-16) Also, they should not allow children to be dropped off without an adult unless they are at least 13-14 years old.
The signs clearly say no running and no diving into water. When the lifeguards saw people running they would "kind of" yell, "no running". But never got confirmation from any of the violators and when they kept running the lifeguards just went back to watching swimmers. I personally had to ask two different boys to stop running and jumping into the pool right over my daughter's head. I was very firm with them and you know what, I didn't have to ask them twice. These boys were probably 7-8 years old with no parents there to watch them. I think the lifeguards should have observed these boys running and jumping into the pool and it should not have been up to me to get up and go over and chastise them. Oh well.......
I am not crazy about the location of the city pool either, however, it could be a nice place to take your family if it were operated correctly. The policies MUST be enforced and there should be a capacity limit. There was no way that those 3 lifeguards around the pool and the one sitting up in the top of the slide could possibly watch 100+ swimmers. I just hope others voice their concerns and maybe the RFPRA can look into making this a better place to take our families!

That is just crazy. I remember when you did not dare to argue with the Lifeguard. You would be out. We were always left and picked up later. No need for a parent to worry. If you were stupid enough to get put out for a few minutes, someone would have spilled the beans on you and when you got home it would be WHUPPIN TIME! Of course, in our case, we would have had the honor of picking our own switch!

| I have had an inground pool for about 26 years, have had one child to show up about 3-5 with a note from her mother allowing me to let her kid swim in my pool. My family knows that if they bring their kids they sit and watch them. I do not baby sit. I know I don't have anything better to do. Kids run, they dive, they are just stupid, told my 16 year old neighbors kid Friday to quit running. They are typically stupid until they have a kid.

i think alot of the kids at the pool walk over there, parents just allow them to go where they please, i used to go to the kraftsmans club pool( not sure if it is still open), it was very reasonable, huge and not alot of people there. My mother used to drop me and my brother off but he was 14 or 15, but we did not act up or anything because our mom always had eyes somehow

That's funny! I guess they spent more money upgrading an already okay facility instead of paying for better help! It's just a mess over there and if I were over it I would not be proud!

| A Marine Drill Instructor could not contain that group of savages. I, personally, would not put my kids into that environment for a million dollars.

| I agree..................................the place is out of control........................................RFPRA hires the weak folks because they know there will be less trouble....................complaining parents are MUCH less of a public relations threat than somebody claiming that someone was thrown out of the facility because of their race................................................................

Hey, we were there yesterday, too. I look like a freaking lobster now!
There was a kid sinking in the middle of the pool during guard swap, and they weren't paying attention, and my wife said, "look he needs help" so I swam over, and sure enough, dude was not swimming and was taking on water, so I grabbed his elbow and walked him to the side. From the look (and experience) I thought he was gonna spew, so I asked him to, if he was, please aim to the concrete! He sputtered a bit, and I asked him to take a deep breath or two so I would know he didn't have a lung full of water, and he did, so he was okay, and went on his way.
I don't think the lifeguards saw it at all. The wife went over and said something to them, but she never told me what she said.

REALLY!! I am surprised that you could even get in there. Last time I was down there I felt like I was at a beach in Mexico. Not becuse of the landscape either!

lol! We usually go on Tuesday and it is nice and quiet. My husband calls it the redneck riviera and in this case he does not mean redneck in a good way. We went only 1 weekend and he vowed to never go back. This man was smoking in the water and when I asked him not to (very nicely and I smoked then too) he told me to f*** off with a lot of kids around him. We walked away a few feet and he all the sudden says I need to go call your mom (probably 4 or so kids immediately around him) and they all said mine? or my mommy? all at the same time. I watched him tell 3 of them no..not their mommy. They were crying asking why not daddy. Apparently, he was going to ask one of their mother's to come down to the beach. My husband thought it was hilarious. I gave him points for at least being involved. Same visit, some women were letting their naked babies run around but they werent babies anymore. This was after their 80 pound diapers fell off into the water. ugh.
