I am just curious on what every body's opinion is on sports officials, no matter what the sport is.
Since I have been officiating for about 13 years now, I have been asking myself that question...... How do people really feel about us?
Open for discussion, not arguing, but please, no harsh language cause I hear enough as it is!!

I feel really bad for you guys when people are giving you crap.....unless you make a horrible call....lol then I'm not feeling so bad for you.....lol
But you have officiated many of my childs games and I think you do a fine job.
I think most of the guys do as good a job as they can and no one can watch everyone all the time. I really do get annoyed at the ones that are clueless though. You know the ones I mean, right? Play happens right at their feet and obvious to everyone on both teams EXCEPT the ref?

| My step-dad is a high school football referee and I admit, he can be a stinker. He graduated from Coosa and has refereed their games before and gives them no breaks, like they would like him to. He is very good at what he does, and takes pride in it. He is the only person I know that does it and I have never had a problem with any of the other ones in other sports.

Overall I think most do a good job.
I do not understand how anyone could ref for soccer games overseas thou.
Those people are nuts and have been known to kill players and refs over calls.

That's so true!
Another thing that strikes me funny is people complain about how skimpy cheerleading outfits are here in the US but soccer cheerleaders overseas usually wear something akin to lingerie!! Satiny, silky looking bra tops and undies are standard!!

What we've noticed is not a problem with refs (they all seem to be good), but parents that disrupt games by hollering things at the refs, or their own children.
It's amazing how some parents act at ballgames.

So true, I watched a parent I thought was great before the game started, hug her little boy about 9yrs old, kiss him and tell him just remember it is a game and games are for fun.
By the 4th inning she was warned 3 times about her mouth, and on the 5th was ejected from the field as she ran out screaming at her son for being an idiot and missing the ball that was hit towards him on 3rd base.
When the ump and the teacher told her to leave, she started cussing and yelling all kinds of wondeful things at everyone around including all the kids.

Gah!! Why didn't someone call the police? It IS against the law to curse in front of a minor!!
I get excited at games but in a positive way. It keeps the kids pumped up when you are excited when they do something good and it never hurts to hear, "That's okay, you'll get it next time." when you feel like crap for missing the ball. I can't believe a parent thinks it is okay to cuss at a 9 year old. That's just BAD.

Not out west only. I heard that sometime recently, perhaps as recently as last week that 3 parents/fans were arrested at a RFPRA little league game here in Rome. Anyone else familiar ?

What do you mean "out west"? Like California out west or West Rome out west?
Whenever I think of "California out west", I can't help but think of USC and the disgusting band routine they had a couple of years ago at the Rose Bowl. My child was like, "momma, why are they grabbing themselves down there?" Those parents must be so PROUD!
