I dread it! My ankle still swells after I'm up on it for 20-30 mins, so we'll see what happens;)

Worked it since '05 and all it is is a bunch of people blessing you out because they have to park as you tell them in the extreme heat and the stench of the river. Then by the time your done, your exausted and can't enjoy the fireworks.

Not to mention the mass exodus out of the one exit of the parkwhen its over.:?:P

Yeah, it's always fun "dealing" with the people when they decide to get smart with you:P.

Are you saying that I won't be able to take up 3 parking spaces crossways, to keep from getting the paint scratched on my 10 year old car? Be careful with that foot, that parking lot is not very level in spots.

It's Independence Day.  We aren't celebrating a day on the calendar.  We are celebrating the birth of our country and the concept of independence, state's rights, and government that derives its just powers from the consent of the governed.  I know the idea of independence isn't very sexy right now...we've been lulled into calling it "4th of July" but in reality it is about celebrating our nation's Independence.

You are right, but many things have been shortened for convenience. I got upset when people started using an X in Christmas, but after someone posted an explanation, the X actually has the same meaning. I think some of it is because of the lack of time so many people have now, it's like printing a sign that doesn't have enough space for all the letters. Most of us (especially the older generation) know the meaning and get emotional still when our National Anthem Plays and our flag flys.

On another but similar note, did any of you see the article about the man who bought an original manuscript of the song "America" (MY Country Tis of Thee), at a flea market. A collector bought it from him and it is worth millions. It was written in 1831. We sang it many times when I was in school but I never hear it any more. I'm not sure they even teach anything about patriotism in school any more.

a lot of time in school is spent talking about how villainous the USA is in our treatment of others, the misogyny of the original colonists, for that matter, our forebears for even coming to this country and destroying the pristine wilderness that existed under the Indians.  in large part the blame America first crowd controls the education system.

for that matter, communism is regularly practiced in classrooms, especially elementary school classrooms.  on the first day of class, teachers often collect all the school supplies the kids have brought to school, and then redistribute them as needed...so the pencils I bought for my kid get redistributed to other kids who don't have them.  you know, "from each according to his ability, to each according to his need."  talk about teaching governmental dependence in grade school.  honestly, it really is a microcosm.  here you have a government agent, a bureaucrat if you will, who gives handouts to the kids...without that government agent, the kids would not have the supplies they needed....and it carries right into adulthood.
