are the residents that use the park also the ones who pay taxes and pay for their kids to play sports??   I don't think so!  Somebody has to pay and he who has the gold has the power!

Now that is not a bright idea for them to consider!  That is a high drug traffic area!

The Parks belong to everyone in Rome and Floyd County, not just the residents who live, nearby.  As a taxpayer, I am happy to see my money spent on fences for the parks---it improves safety for children who are playing there.

A chain-link fence looks fine to me.  If it were razor wire, or barbed wire I could understand the complaints.  It is a park, not an exhibit.

If the Summerville Park residents can't stand the fence, let them raise money to fund a replacement.  I have seen the new fence.  It is not blighted, obscene or tacky.

I think the fence isn't the real problem.  The problem is that they think it is their exclusive territory, and they don't want to share.

Quite the opposite, actually! They would love to share, and be shared with. The residents of that neighborhood have taken care of the park for years when the Rec Authority ignored it, everything from picking up trash to monitering water quality. Yet when a few neighborhood kids get together and want to go to the park to play ball, they aren't allowed in the fence because the Authority is trying to grow grass or some such thing.

Safety wasn't an issue--they had a fence up before that to block cars, but took it down to put in the chain link specifically around their practice field. Talk about a waste of money.

Starting to sound a bit like Gwinnet County. I played softball a few years ago for my company. We went to one of the local parks on a Sunday afternoon and during our practice were told to vacate the field so one of the little league teams from one of the "moneyed" schools could practice. Then two of the coaches from the little league team proceeded to get into a fist fight in front of the children over which team would have to use the mudier field.

I call the parks and recreation commitee and the city commissioners office. I was basically told that even though the park was supposed to be for the public on Sundays, these schools paid a lot of money so average tax payers (who not only paid for the parks but the schools) would just have to take their chances on getting a chance to use them.

So you think it should be taken down and left bare, or replaced with a wooden fence?

In a perfect world, the RFPRA would take down the fence, put back what was there before (a wooden fence) and apologize for generally acting like playground bullies.

OR they could train the dogs at the Georgia Dog Gym to build a new fence out of the millions of cigarette butts littering ALL of the parks. Now THAT would be worth my tax dollars.

Well, maybe we've cut police pay enough to afford it.

I guess you could call it a pay cut!  More over it is just that the previous county managment didn't realize that Public Safety pay was increasing all around them.  I mean who would have thought that raises would have needed to be given throughout the years to stay competitive.

Op, Friend they will spend money on things that dont make sense and look for ways to get out of spending it where it is really needed. What they hate to hear is people like you shedding light on their stupidity. Keep up the good work. Im proud of you.

I am just saying that money is being spent places that it does not need to be spent. Patroles with the police are being cut. Streets are not fixed where people can drive. public safty postitons are having to cut down on what they do so people can be a dumb fence????? THAT AINT RIGHT

Good idea! and instead of painting the fence we could just cover it with all of the plastic drug baggies, litter, and use all the beer cans and bottles for the foundation.  And they worry about how the fence looks.......................It looks like a third world country over there! GEESH!

Wooden fences sound great to me. Imagine all the beautiful spray paint art you will be able to enjoy as you pass by. Just the thing and it will ensure the public works department employees will have plenty of work to keep them occupied. (Removing grafitti)  Darn, is that how you spell grafitti? Just remove it. LOL ;););)
