Tereca, that is a great idea that many people could participate in. Collecting and crushing the cans are not a big deal and if anyone needed someone to take them to him, one of us could do that too.

The manager at the little store, Terrie Guzman, asked me when the next work day would be. I told her about the on-going effort. She said that if we did have another work day, the crew could come by and fill coolers with ice from her store. The store number is 706-235-6822 if someone wants to call ahead and check with her (so they're spaced apart). She gets there early and works most of the time.

Don't forget, if any of you have any free time in the evenings to help with cleanup at Rusty Dixon's your efforts will be very much appreciated.

Thanks dew. I have the grandbabies tonight but I may be able to get there tomorrow evening.

Don't forget folks, there is a Rusty Dixon Fund set up with United Comunity Bank. Any donations for rebuilding the house or donations of your time and labor would be deeply appreciated.

ALERT!!!

WE ARE SCRAPPING THE ROME RUSTY PROJECT!

I spoke with dew earlier and both contractors are pulling out of the project.

Rusty is not willing to keep his part of the bargain and we cannot help those who are unwilling to help themselves.

For those of you who donated your time, I thank you, I know it came from the heart. I'm sorry that things are not going forward but it's better to stop now than to continue to work on the project with no effort being shown on Rusty's part.

If you have any questions, you can post on this thread or pm me.

Thanks again.

I'll let the manager of the store know too.

(But wasn't it fun to 'project together?' What's next?)

msla, there are always ways to help others and many times they will make the necessary changes in their lifestyle to make it really worthwile. Our time was not wasted, we met some nice, good hearted folks who were willing to give their own time to try to help, and we cleared out a huge dumpster full of trash. There is certainly no shame in knowing when to pull the plug on the bathwater.

There are lots of other people in this town who need help and I am sure would be grateful to have it. They range the whole gamut of things that could be done to help. Mostly financial right now. They need food or help paying there house payment /rent or utilities. This is a bad economic time for alot of folks who work hard and try but just seem to fall short.

I know before I hear it, If they had gotten a better education and a better job maybe they would not need help bla bla bla. That is beside the point now. I hope things get better soon for all of us.

Kudos to all who helped or tried to help Rusty. Sorry it wasn't as fruitful as it could have been.

Thank you BD. It is a bad time for most of us right now. I have 3 sons who are in different types of construction, and jobs are few and far between. We won't starve if our garden produces enough and neither will our neighbors. Any time we offer help, it comes from the heart and when it isn't appreciated or in this case the person is evidently incapable of helping themselves, then we just have to move on.

Wow, my question was more of a rhetorical nature - I was thrilled about our member camaraderie. Thanks for the thoughts though. I do get involved with lots of things and try to 'go where most won't go' -  unless it's dangerous. I had a good time with the anticipation, planning, and finally meeting some of you. Reading the forum was interesting because we discussed all sorts of angles. On hindsight, I should have phrased that a different way. I was just excited. Sigh....

this is really sad....i do hope Rusty will open his eyes one day and see what all he has/has not accomplished, what people were/are willing to do for him, and I hope and pray that he will continue with his therapy.

To the people emailing me at my personal email not the Rome news wire, I'm not disappointed, I'm happy i tried. Rusty has never been charged with a violent crime. He is all mouth. Mental health people have rights too! If your not apart of his life the fear you have of him is in your own head. So if you fear him, stay away and quit trying to bring up a bunch of emotional what ifs. Rusty did nothing what i call bad. He basically broke an invisible contract we had with him. And the Group responded accordingly. But what is sad he has been going to mental health appointments and has a  Drs appointment on the 14th. Where I know for fact medicines were going to be admistered. Now it probably will not happen!!!! Its a shame that stangers have to intervine instead of blood family. Thats my soap box , sorry!!! Don't blame yourself DEW, you did everything you could and you owe no one any apology. All those who were involved understand.
