| Two of Sheriff Burkhalter's deputies came and talk to our group recently. You could tell that both enjoyed talking with us and we enjoyed having them there. These boys were very polite and took time to speak with everyone. You could tell that they had pride in their jobs and both knew what they were talking about. This to me was going "beyond the basics". I still dont understand how someone would challenge him by running on a platform stating he wanted to back up an agency after it has gone well beyond where it was before and the basic service. Sheriff Tim Burkhalter has from what I have seen done more for the people of our communty than any other Sheriff that I can remember in a long time. The last one I can remember doing as much for his community was Sheriff Adams. Tim has done exactly what he promised to do when he was elected. Being positive in the communtity. It was a phrase that he made come true. To challenge Tim with the phrase "Back to the Basics" doesnt make sense. Sounds like Steve wants to break something that has already been fixed. I'm am betting he is going to have to rethink what they thought was a catchy slogan for him. This one is already not making any sense. Maybe he needs a new committee to brainstorm a new phrase. We all know now backing up aint it. Im going to need a lot more than wanting to back up, to change my vote to anyone else other Tim Burkhalter. I do want to commend both Tim and Steve , we like the fact that both of them appear to be wanting to run clean race. They both know that people are very tired of smear campaigns and mud slinging. Thank you both. Good luck Last edited on Sun May 11th, 2008 10:45 pm by BEENAROUND

| Strange things were afoot at the chili's! Reckon why the county manager would be having lunch with the candidate for Sheriff (Hulsey) and his campaign manager? The only reason that I can muster is that Poe is used to Hulsey being a Department Head at the water department and he would like to see that type as the sheriff so that he has more control of him. That is just the first thing that comes to mind, does anybody else have any other ideas? it would not suprise me to find out that all of this basics stuff was the County Managers idea in the first place. Maybe I am wrong about all of this, but my suspicious nature tells me there is more to this story.

That wouldn't suprise me, some people in this county hates changes!!!!!I just hate to see someone back a candidate that just wants the BASICS or go back to the basics.
Here is a BASIC idea ot a matter of fact for all Tim will win hands down.

If that is true then it would seem to me, that Poe wants a candidate that he could control. It would be ashame that he would want to go so far back to the basics that we would end up with a sheriff on puppet strings.
I prefer a sheriff that can make his own decisions GO TIM BURKHALTER!!!!!!!!

| Perhaps thats why Mr. Poe tries to block any request Tim makes for additional help. Maybee he is hoping the department personell shortage will look bad at election time.

Sheriff Burkhalter in my opinion has been a 1st rate sheriff. He runs his department by true leadership principles. He has taken a department of gun-shy, brow beat deputies and developed them into a motivated, professional department of leaders. He has come in under budget every year, despite having to fix problems ignored by the previous administration. He has been “POSITIVE IN THE COMMUNITY” by starting multiple programs (at no cost to the county) that allow his deputies to give back to those less fortunate than themselves. All of these things have been done in the last four years. I can only imagine how much good can come from allowing him to continue with his forward momentum for four more years.
I am curious what Hulsey means by “back to the basics”. A Sheriff is more than a cowboy with a gun and tin star riding with the wagon train or hanging out at the county fair. He is 1st a citizen of the county he serves; he is proactive at fighting crime, and he leads his deputies in the life of service they have chosen. He has the ability to take action for the greater good and therefore the responsibility to do so. What can be more basic?
Mr. Hulsey the office of Sheriff cant be a part-time gig and you haven’t shown the commitment to serve full time. I understand that the decision for you to leave the S.O. years ago was made for you, but you didn’t fight to stay with it. You have yet in your career to even reach the basics or shown that you understand what they are.
I just don’t believe that you are the steward of public trust and peace that you claim to be.

WhaT IN THE WORLD ARE YOU SAYING lOKI?
So far back to the basics that the Sheriff would only have a tin star, follow the wagon train and hang out at the county fair?
That almost descibes a reserve I use to know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If thats the case then Poe would have his puppet Sheriff with a big shiney new tin star, county fair security and last but not least WAGON HO!!!!!!!!

Are you crazy,
Whats to be disgruntle about, the only reason you think the department ran smoother under Rickman is because he was detached from the department. Of course its hard to be attached to a department swinging a nine iron.
