For the new people to the area, where are  the best places to go to see a good fireworks show and socialize within about 15-20 miles of Adairsville... IE Cartersville, Calhoun, Rome... Maybe Adairsville?

thx and happy 4th to you all

rome's display at ridge ferry park is always good. if you want to avoid some of the mess, just drive over to the other side of the river and sit on the levee to watch the display.

FOC wrote: It's Independence Day.  We aren't celebrating a day on the calendar.  We are celebrating the birth of our country and the concept of independence, state's rights, and government that derives its just powers from the consent of the governed.  I know the idea of independence isn't very sexy right now...we've been lulled into calling it "4th of July" but in reality it is about celebrating our nation's Independence.

Yes, you are right.  Happy Independence Day, FOC!

I will tell you ................My Family and I were at the 4th celebration at Ridge Ferry park....................the mc asked for everyone to offer a moment of silence for the troops past and present.  You could have heard a pin drop.............except two dirtbag girls and one girly man smacking their pizza.....................made me mad................but then during the National Anthem...............while everyone else had their hand on their hearts and were facing Ole Glory in reverence, these jacklegs were still smacking on pizza, on the cell phone huddled in a little group not facing the flag...................It made me so mad, but then out of the corner of my eye I saw a little boy kinda lollygagging  and half-heartedly standing still..................and then it happened..........his dad walked over to him, jerked his butt in line.   The boy stood corrected the rest of the song.  After it was over, I watched as the dad pulled him aside with his arm around him and explained the importance of the moment and why it meant so much. He made me feel better seeing him doing that and I bet that young boy will always remember that....................................I know because my dad had that same conversation with me when I was about his age when the fireworks were still at the levy.  My understanding of Patriotism began there and after Military service and public service it means more now than ever!

I have seen mentioned in this forum about how the govt. runs things now and how things have gotten away from government for the people and by the people, and I wholeheartedly agree. But keeping in mind those people on their cell phone and smacking their pizza that OP mentioned, who on here would be afraid for "the people" to take back their right and run the govt., when society is now so full of these types of people?:?

Good for that father..... we need more parents like this!

I had that same conversation with my daughter and she knows what our flag stands for and what price was paid/is paid for our freedom.

I was a the Rome Braves fire works on Tuesday night.... I had the same kind of experience with some teenagers not being respectful.

It all starts with parenting...... involved parents = good upbringing

I have always made a point to let my kids know that their freedom is not free.  My family has had several in the military and we are very glad they all come home alive.
