Hmmm, Well I don't carry anything... but have a .45 Paraordnance P14-45 and an H&K 357 sig in my handgun collection. Either work when required. But not extremely concealable. But will not carry anything smaller than a .45, especially when I have survived a 9mm to the chest. Story for another day. But I have no respect for small bore. Although in the hands of an expert, frankly, a pellet (.177) could be deadly.

At the risk of being cliche'. A glock? the big 'me too'? Frankly, like Bose, over priced and under delivered! I know many with a Glock.. how many with a Paraordance, H&K, or Sig Sauer? And all better weapons for the same cost. No a .40 is a nice compromise between a 9mm and a .45 ACP. bullet is faster, but about 2/3 the energy of the .45ACP and about 85% the energy of a .357 sig (ACP). If the perp is wearing anything that could be construed as 'protective' like a trama plate or flak jacket. The .45 may not kill, but the person is not likely to get up on their own. pitch up and smear for the .40 ACP or 10mm, and maybe the breath knocked out of them with a 9mm. (assuming COM shot). As for the .357 sig. OMG, so little kick, such great accuracy, and no penality for not shooting major. But not what I want to put down a perp. Enjoy your .40 ACP Glock. And all better weapons for the same cost. Glocks have proven themselves time and time again, especially in the hands of Law Enforcement, so I'll stick with them. I've put upwards of 2000 rounds through mine and not one single jam or malfunction. As for the .40 S&W, mine is for target shooting mostly, but I'd use it if I had to. Again, it has proven itself since it's creation in 1990. I can also get a pretty good group going with my Glock 23, even with the cheaper Remington UMC ammo. But just as I got the .40, of course Law Enforcement started leaning the other way when Glock and Speer came out with the .45 GAP round. I've heard pretty good reviews on it plus GSP and the SC State Patrol have made the switch, so I'm thinkin about following their lead. I'd much rather pick up my AR anyway if it came to self defense.

As for Home defense, I will see your AR, and raise you my 12 gauge with 00 buck shot. don't have to worry about aiming NOR hitting the youngins in the house! However, If I care to go through the walls, and nearly everything else, I will use my heavy barrel XM500, although it made more sense as a defense weapon when the perp had to cross a one lane bridge to exit the neighborhood, about a 1/2 mile shot. But then again, I really own these for competition shooting. And frankly, a Glock would shoot better than I do, much less the armories that I own.

The only thing about that is I'm good with a shotgun, but I've been around rifles all my life and I prefer them. Me and a friend went to the range last week and he brought his Rem. 870 Police Mag that he's recently tricked out. When we were about done shooting, he took it up to 5 yards from the target with a mix of 00 Buck and Slugs. Totally obliterated the backing we were using Then we let loose with the AR on an unlucky 2 liter 7-UP bottle that someone had frozen water in. I made the mistake of letting my friend shoot it w/ the AR first. Within 3 hits, the ice was gone and the bottle was in 2 pieces

LOL, that takes me back to when I taught my daughter about the true dangers of shooting firearms... The first time I let her (with my assistance) shoot my .45 black talon into a gallon milk jug.... let's just say, she has NO curiosity about what a bullet can do to a person.

Paul, was it line of duty, thank you. I have a 9 because it is fun to shoot. I spend time teaching a couple of neighbors kids to shoot, they love it as long as I am buying the ammo. I cannot afford a Rem. 870 but I do have two mossberg in different locations. First 3 rounds #6 shot, next 2 double ought. I shot a piece of sheet rock against a storage shelf one day with a 44mag rat shot, went through the sheet rock and blew crap off the shelf. I do have a .45, I think one is a Springfield, my kid has it, never got to shoot it, plus an old WW! army issue, can't call it a Colt, only thint I can identify is Ithaca, it probably has Singer sewing machine parts in it.

Dang, did the same thing with my kid around 5. Carried my Blackhawk 44 mag. out with a milk jug full of water. But only one round.............needless to say I had to go back into the house. Never had to worry about the kid touching a gun.

Love the Bunny... and I quit hunting in HS. I enjoy target shooting at the range, but would not enjoy shooting animals anymore... well maybe animals that attack young innocents.. but that is not this forum. As for being shot, well it was while I was in the service, but it was friendly fire! By someone who was careless... fortunately I had a ceramic (trama) plate in place when it happened... it only knocked the breath out of me and bruised some ribs. Whereas a .45 ACP would have broken the same ribs. Even if it did not kill me. While I appreciate it, it did hurt, I do not deserve any accolades... just lucky to survive a fools handling of their weapon.

Thank you for serving. Gotta watch people with handguns. Thank you. My borther witnessed a similar situation while he was in the Army. 45 cal. the guy was lucky, caught him on his side at his rib cage and it followed his ribs to the back. Anyone wanting to touch my firearm, I clear it and hand it to them and make them clear it.

right on.. If I am at a range where someone is acting the fool, I pack up and leave... and if I am paying for the range, I complain quite loudly on my way out... but I was lucky once, and do not care to experience that again.
