Contrary to popular belief, you don't have to show your reciept at Walmart. The greeters are only allowed to ask for it, but cannot force you to show it. Places like WalMart, Best Buy, etc. I never let them see my reciept because I don't have to. It is a waste of my time to stand there and let them look through all my stuff that I bought. Places like Sams Club and Costco are a different story.

I think he would be more mad at the way that the employees are treated. That is true and when Sam Walton walked into one of his stores and didn't like the way it was being ran the management was fired on the spot. As for the rude greeters, I say what Walter says"Welcome to Walmart!!! Get your S**t and get out."

Even though I spend substantial time at Wal-Mart, I HATE those dadgum buzzers at the exits..... you know the one that alerts everybody that something is being stolen! Some dope at the register forgets to deactivate something or other and when I try to exit..... BBBZZZZZZZZ!!!!! How embarrassing!!! Then I have to retrieve my receipt and show them that indeed, this or that is paid for.

or, if you like a bit of drama, just loudly exclaim that you don't like being called a thief. don't curse, don't do anything other than that. tears work well and righteous indignation should go along with it.

Bill, should I carry an onion in my pocket to get the tears started?

I always pay for it and usually I forget and cram the receipt in my "organizer" Purse and if they stop me I have to dig for it. I think I could get to an onion in my pocket quicker.

Not that I have looked at my Sams Club membership agreement anytime lately but I would be willing to bet there is a clause in there about complying with Sams policies or some such none sense that would be the legal authority. Just a hunch though. -CW

The reason they ask you to "please show your receipt" and not tell you to "stop and show your receipt" is that if they impede your freedom of movement then that constitutes an arrest. If you have paid for the item and there is no crime, then the arrest has become a false arrest. And we know how much that can cost.

My wife works at sams. She is on walk about right now but I will talk to her in the morning and see if she knows. At Sams before I make it to the door I have to have a manager sign off on my reciept and I dont work there, but being a family member I have to. I can live with that.

Returning anything at Walmart isn't any easier. I had one item I had to return at the ER Walmart and there was already a woman there returning 20 items. Of course the greeter has to take each item out of the bag and scan it, then half the time it wasn't scanning. After waiting 10 minutes I politely asked if it would be easier if I went to the other side and she said that they were almost done. Yeah right. Five minutes later they finally got to me and the 3 people behind me. On top of that, I just wanted to scream, "Don't you see that this person is trying to scam you with the items they are trying to return!". Oh well.

I'd love to hear from Walmart management about some of this.
