If you think for one minute that security has never had a knife or weapon pulled against them you are wrong.  Who do you think use to watch ER?  To my knowledge they never had tazers, pepper spray or any other weapon to retaliate with.  They had to use their wits and common sense.  I don't think there was ever an officer that was hurt badly.  I am sure they had knocks and bruises.  They didn't sit in the ER and flirt with all the nurses.  I have heard rumors about the police in the ER and their groupies.  Why do you think they have had patients get away?  Once again, I am not talking about all the officers.  I wont' make a blanket statement like that.

It might be because this is a part time job for them. Their real jobs take priority. Have you ever heard of a listening post? or LP. It is a job you expect to get overrun. You send them out to be early warning. They can't do much but warn you of coming trouble. security is alot like that.

What exactly do you mean by hurt badly? Hospitals are what is refered to as soft targets. As is schools, churches and shopping malls. The threat of immediate retribution has detered aggression for a long time.

I know officers that have knives and guns pulled on them.  Also, they have had patients that are out of control that have hit them and some of them have had damages to parts of their bodies.

And what was the end result. Did they call the police and make a report? Or did they just take it? What I am getting at is that security is good for minor situations. The key word is minor. Anything involving assault or any type of weapons is well beyond them. They are not equiped for the situation. When ever you set up a defense you lay in you MG base of fire to include your FPL you then send out a LP for security.

I worked EMS before they had uniformed police officers in the ER. I have seen them get into hand on hand fights and I myself have been in quiet a few in the ER with unruly patients, that is just a part of the job there, Only if the situation got way out of hand was the police called which was not very often, but now since they no longer have to man the ER they do not allow them to do much of anything. As far as the parking deck is concerned, most of the thefts occur by homeless ppl and druggies walking into the deck and not by visitors, i mean look at what is next to the deck:shock:

I am still trying to find the answer to wether or not you can carry in there, my vote is yes.

I'm also still waiting for Deaglos to tell me the story of the person who shot two wrong people.

Maybe because the security officers as well are willing to "jump up and handle whatever comes up or whoever starts it?" HMMMMMMMMMMMMM
Are all the real cops late for duty in the ER or just some. I would agree that security has some very good people working in it, however their leadership is way less than perfect. to name a few good ones sherry and tim are outstanding there are others but i dont remember their names, but they should pay sherry for doing a sergeants job......wonder where the sgt for that shift is????????would the director know????

LOL, I picture some scumbag busting in the ER, slapping the police, and then walking away strutting thinking "yeah, I won that one"....and the police looking at each other with that "please don't cause any trouble" stare on their face...................

LOL.................sounds like a scumbag's dream (and I hope they are all holding their breath):D

You might not make a blanket statement like that, but you have slapped a group in the face that was not even the topic of this thread.  Way to go!  bash a group because your a hater!  It is a dang shame the officers have to work 2nd and 3rd jobs in the first place to make a living and stay away from their families and then some pompus a** like you goes and makes generalized statements that make their families feel unsecure about them being there. Thanks alot!  I promise that you are a someone who has a dog in the fight.  Want me to call you out with proof!
