I went to Rusty's today and took some food he likes to eat. Whew, he is tall-looking!! Anyway, he has stuff piled next to the dumpster but doesn't know how to open it up. I didn't either but I told him I'd blog it here and maybe someone could tell him how to open it up.

He said all the right things: "Bless this, bless that." I told him to keep praying and help others when they get in trouble.

Meanwhile, it ends up that I know the manager at the little store!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Whaa hoo!!!!!!!!!! She was off today so I went to her house! ha ha ha - can't get away from us! I asked if we could get a couple of pots of coffee if her supervisor wasn't around (it's a chain store and she doesn't have time to clear things with the corporate office) and we can. She also goes to Calvary Baptist Church when she isn't stuck working all the time!! I'm telling you, God wants us there Saturday to do something or another!! ha ha ha ha ha

On the other hand, she gave me an ear full of what they have tried to do for Rusty. Things really have gone on for a long time. So I told her that you were trying to get his mental things taken care of; perhaps a long-term SS solution; and at least clean up the house. She's been the manager there for a long time. Maybe she'll help with public relations in the neighborhood. Who knows?

that is awesome MSLA !!  I cant wait to get started.  I have no idea how to open it either...maybe someone can shed some light about it for you.  I think if alot of us got in there and cleared out alot of the junk and ashes/soot...then TJ can come in and start on everything else.  I do believe we should be able to knock out the cleaning in one day.  I am not much of a coffee drinker, but, if she wants to throw in a few Dr. Peppers, she would be my friend forever !!  ;)...JK...cant wait to meet everyone saturday...I have met several of the members on here and everyone has been so wonderful !!

Well if nothing else, we will be taking some of the burden off his neighbors. I'm sure there are many of them who would have loved to go in there and clean up but perhaps didn't know where to start. One person cannot do it all. My son is posting a sign here in Cave Spring asking for anyone who wants to volunteer or donate. It turns out he knows TJ. He is planning to help with the clean up too so that is another  pair of hands.  Incidently, if any of you have some old boots, or sox to wear with your shoes, be sure to wear them, those floors are filled with debris and most of it is black with soot. Headscarfs or hats wouldn't be a bad idea either.

So far, we have 7 or 8 people who have responded, perhaps others will respond later or just show up to work. Come join us, it won't be just work, we'll make it as much fun as possible, and we'll do that by just being ourselves.

edited to say that I've had 7 0r 8 responses and tereca may have more that I'm not aware of.

What about parking?
It's a nice neighborhood but the little street seemed busy to me for a Thursday morning.

Good question msla. If it becomes too congested, perhaps we can find a place for folks to park and shuttle them back to the house.

Thanks SR. We know it is short notice and understand that some who planed to come won't be able to. If we work a 2nd Saturday, it will probably be the weekend after the 4th.

There is a church on Burnett Ferry. I wonder if we could use their parking lot if needed. We'll "cross that bridge" whenever. Didn't someone have relatives close by? Wonder if we could use their space? I could probably park at the store but walking is a problem for me since I have balance problems. Heck, I am a problem! ha ha ha ha ha! (I want to remind you that I'm there for humor. And scrounging things.) Too bad the store doesn't have much space!
Well, no matter what, we'll find out!

my mom lives 2 doors down from rusty...she has a fenced in yard/driveway...i know when the family gets together at her house, we park in the front yard/street area....the elderly family that lives between my mom and rusty probably wouldnt mind if we used their driveway/front yard/road area.  they very seldom go anywhere.
