To swing back on topic. Tonight I received a phone call about the raise. It is gone. The starting pay will be raised, but bringing everyone in line with other departments will be too expensive without firing a few.

I have relatives in law enforcement and will vote for anyone running against the current commisioners. I'll put up signs or hand out bumper stickers. I already have my yard sign up.

Did anyone really believe the commisioners that the county has was ever going to do anything. You would think that one among them Ex- special police would be pro public safety, but I think he has other agendas on his mind. The current commissioners didn't even have the guts to stand up and force Fricks to resign. Floyd county needs some commissioners in office that would put Poe out and stand up for public safety.

Is the pay study up to date or is it the one done a couple of years ago? Are they going to fix the pay for the guys working now, first or just raise the starting pay first? The way I read the article was that they are going to fix the now working wages and then the starting pay. But they said they would get it half way there now. So IMOO I see the small raise and "then oops we cant give the rest. Let us do another pay study that will take another year and forget about our promise."

Still a far cry from what is needed. However, with a little publicity, a little raise makes the public think that everything has been fixed and it loses some impact when an officer complains. The next tax payer funded study will come between 3 and 5 years from now.

This may not be the complete soloution... but it is a good first step.

This plan eases the pay scale compression from years of simply increasing the starting salary. This will help with retention.

This plan could have been put together by the committee as a complete fix but would have cost so much the Commission would have rejected it.

In my opinion they did a good job of putting something together that has a good shot at being approved. It also sets out a road map of future steps.

Remember, Rome was not built in a day... I think this is a good start to getting everything where it should be.

It may be a political ploy to delay things till after the next elections but the fact that they have conceded on some points at least gives people concerned the opportunity to get a foot in the door and press for more improvements.

Like the question "How do you eat an elephant"   ........ One Bite At A Time.

Good luck with this issue.  Hang in there.

Back to the issue at hand.   Have you thought about a recall petition on each commissioner if this falls through.

Msg,

That was my original posting and I was admittedly p-o'ed at the time.  I have been assured that it would fall flat.  If I thought it would have a chinamen's chance, I would proceed

I have a question that maybe someone can answer. In reference to the pay raises that I for one believe our boys and girls are owed, which commissioners  are holding it up or dont want to give it. I for one would like to know. Is there a way that we the citizens can help. I just have a hard time believing that they cant see the problem and dont want to help. It really seems from what we see that they had rather spend money on things that dont make any sense ,than spend it where it is needed. I guess that is the reason Im losing my hair (scratching my head trying to figure out what they are doing). What makes me so mad is the fact that I see my tax dollars going to areas where tax revenue is not being generated. Fences, swimming pools, rec. centers, and health departments are being put in areas that I wont go and wouldnt want my wife, children and grand children going. I havent seen anything go up in my area, well we did get some soccer fields for the illegals to come play soccer on and block the roads, and change clothes on side of the street. I guess I need to get one of my friends here to come hit me on the head to make me understand. To our local law enforcement , I want to tell you THANK YOU for what you do. Im sorry I gave them my tax dollars I would much rather have given it to you.
