where would you locate a new city pool...maybe south rome next to the new health health department......that would a real safe place LOL...... Again we seem to cater to certain people in this area.... some of those get something for nothing people.......I would rather my kids play in a mud hole than go to the city pool.......Safety would be my number one concern....Drugs sold by the truck loads in the area.....Thats a real safe place for your family.....

Well I am glad you searched the world over to find one of my mistakes, thanks for pointing it out. Sorry Ronron i was looking at the wrong post i guess. I was just infuriated with romegasir's extreme ignorance at the time, and it was romegasir that i was calling a racist, not to hard to figure that out i hope. You should have also noticed that I am very aware of the correct spelling of that word as I had already used it twice in my posts here and had spelled it correctly. I would also like to add that my family and I went back to the city pool on the fourth of July and it was again very nice! The place was decorated and they even had the radio playing, i really cant see why anyone can have such a problem with this place. Last edited on Sun Jul 6th, 2008 06:43 pm by dirtybird7 |

Rome to me is a funny place. It's nice to drive through and looks like a pretty nice place to live. Just don't turn off of the main streets. A lot of the main streets turn into areas I would rather not be. I am speaking of, North Broad, South Broad, definitely Maple Street and a few others. I like the idea of the restructuring plan in South Rome, they just misssed one part. Take a bulldozer and push the entire place down to the ground. The same thing goes for the village in Lindale. What a slum!

Dirtybird what if Romegasir is prejudice? Is that not his right as an American? Did not his ancestors fight and die so that he would have the right to say what he believes? When you take away the right of an individual to speak his mind, you make him a slave. Tyranny is tyranny whether it comes from King George, Big Government or Narrow-minded political correctness. The truth of the matter is that the pool IS in a HIGH CRIME AREA. Doesn’t Matter if it is occupied by blacks, whites, Hispanics.

Funny, the first person who brought race into this was ronron. I don't see anything wrong with the warning posted about the areas. I thought it was rather prudent to let people know a person's feelings on something, and it was presented tastefully. And stating the obvious hardly qualifies as racist or prejudice. Why are people so easy off-ended (play on words if you catch it) these days? On the other hand, our family has gone to the pool in north Rome a few times, and we lived to tell about it, so I can say that the pool area seems to be safe, but honestly, if you don't mind some 3 year old kid flipping you off calling you a m-f-ing honky, the geographic area is marvelous.

So let me get this straight if you have an opinion your a racist!!!!!!!!!Well I guess I shouldn't state that I would never expose my family as long as I can help it, to the drug infested neighborhood that just so happens to be where to city pool is, but of course that just one of the drug infested neighborhoods.. Would it be racist to ask why they never build something away from those neighborhoods???Why was the health department put in a drug infested neighborhood??? Why was the city pool located where it is?? I happen to welcome romegasirs opinion.. it brings controversy to these topics..

You may not like RGS's comments or the way he puts them forward but the accuracy percentage is pretty far up the scale.

Didn't the city pool used to be where the tennis courts are at?

I read back to find my racist comment and couldn't find one.....................................also noted that ronron is the one who said as long as you have a black friend, you'll be okay, but if you're a "cocky white boy" then you'll be unsafe................................................................................................not my words, sorry to disappoint....................................................................................... There are black folks who feel the same way........................................................there are black folks in this very town who wonder why the community leaders and churches in their neighborhoods will be the first and loudest to criticize any action by police in the area, but are completely silent when it comes to the drug dealers and thugs who roam the streets 24/7..........................................the community leaders who are the first and loudest to blame elected officials for not investing enough money in the area, but dead silent when it comes to the fact that the rate of involved fathers in the community is less than half........................................................every once in a while a real leader will stand up and say what needs to be said, but there are some requirements before he can get away with it, the primary being that he MUST be black......................even then he can expect race traitor, racist, uncle tom and sell-out accusations................................................but "racist" just doesn't stick to a black man like it does a white...................................................bringing us to dirtybird's accusation that I'm a racist....................................................... I pointed out that south rome is unsafe....................................some don't know it's true, some are afraid to admit it's true for fear of being labeled a racist.........................................but the fact is, it's unsafe................and no label, accusation or blame will change that

I have been to the pool many times with my kids and never once were they exposed to the "drug infestation" that you speak of. I am not saying it does not exist it is just we have not been exposed to it. We have been exposed to a nice afternoon of going down the slide with pressure washed decks and Crepe myrtles blowing in the wind. I do not let my child wonder outside the fence on her own either so maybe that is the problem. Dont let your kids go wondering. I am going to play devils advocate here also. When I went to school, the people gettng in trouble for drugs were the the yuppies. They all smoked pot and thought it was so cool. Darlington, at the time, had more of a drug problem than any school around. I just hope this label is being attached because of the people in the neighborhood. again, I am not in law enforcement so I dont know but I will say we have never seen that side and honestly have never had a problem except a few kids getting rowdy but that is to be expected anywhere.

mom, believe it or not, i'm with you on part of your post..............................I could care less if the hoods are white, black, tan or red..............................................and if you're claiming that there are more drug addicts on horseleg than on Pennington, you may be right, especially considering pain and anxiety pills.....................................................................................................but, for the most part, one can park their car on Horseleg creek, and walk a couple of miles, return to the car and go home........................try doing that in South rome.............if the car is there, it won't be drivable...........................................................and if you make it back safely, you'll wonder how..........................................................................by the way, the pool is in north rome, and for the most part, Kingston Avenue and Calhoun Avenue, the two major thoroughfares near the pool can be navigated safely................................................but venture off of those major roads and you're asking for trouble..............................................................................................this is not a "poor" neighborhood with a few bad apples........................................................this is a drug haven.........................although, admittedly, not as bad as South Rome.......................................................

Yes, she has a point. The pool, as a rule, is cooooool. But you go wandering off, and you better watch it. Any race, for that matter. There's as much same on same up there as anything else.

I would feel so out of place at horseleg that I wouldnt care. They wouldnt want my 4-year-old car anyway. AND horseleg doesnt have the slide and that is what the kids love. We have friends that have a pool and still go to the city pool for the slide. I just didnt want this turning into a bad neighborhood thing. Its mainly a cemetary thing with a gait around a nice pool with nice new lounge chairs that they keep very clean. I have noticed a lot of city cops patrolling the area on a regular basis and maybe that helps. to answer someone's question about why, did you ever think maybe they put that complex out there with a nice park and bbq grills hoping to get the smaller kids swimming and playing instead of learning the bad stuff? I agree with the south rome issue. That is where I got lost and when I was a social worker and within seconds people were wanting to "wash my windshield" HECK!! I thought they wanted to wash my windows. I am a West Rome sheltered knuckle head and didnt know places like that existed here. I thought I was around the corner from the country club so it wasnt bad. Rome is a strange town as far as nice neighborhoods/not so nice. you can be in a nice, clean area and 1 block later its a different story. I think another pool would be great just to help with overflow and booking parties. It would make money for sure.

That's so funny, mom...I've never had anyone try to wash my windows in S. Rome. I've had them try to sell me drugs but never wash my windows. And amazingly enough, I've left my car in S. Rome for an extended period of time (several hours just a year or so ago) and when I got back, it was exactly like I left it. I can also tell you that I'm not black so no one can say it's because I "fit in" or whatever stupid comment would be said. And my car is one of the most stolen...lol or at least it was until gas went up so much. I just do not live my life in fear of anything or anyone. I will say, though, that I've gotten more shaken, scared at the WR walmart than I ever have been in S. Rome, N. Rome, or the Kingston pool....some idiot walked up on me as I was getting into my car trying to sell me some of his stolen crap and he almost got shot. I don't think he will walk up on anyone else in WR walmart parking lot anyway.

Maybe I didnt make myself clear. They were pretending to wash my windows to get close enough to try to sell me drugs. I think it depends on what part you are in once again. I again am not in law enforcement and know nothing about cars being stripped or anything like that..short of the K98 bus making headlines you typically dont hear much about that do you? My mother lives in North Rome and loves it. She is disabled and the whole little street is older/disabled people. They take each other to the doctor, take turns cooking for each other, and are true neighbors. I tried to get her to move closer to the rest of the family since she can no longer drive and she had a fit. She isnt scared over there. She told the neighborhood kids they could use her porch on rainy days since her house is at the bus stop and now they will come and help her out with getting groceries in, yard work, and one of them takes her trash out for her weekly without being asked. the majority of them are black boys and no we are not black either. What is bothering me with most of these discussions is it seems to be a neighborhood thing instead of an isolated thing or an individual thing and that stinks. I am not too far from the WR Wal-Mart but am not judged on what that guy did to you. Why do we judge a whole neighborhood by a few hoodlums. They are everywhere, every color, and unfortunately can be deceptive sometimes.
