We went to Kangaroo Jakes today too! The kids had just as much fun today as they did last week when we went. It's a great place and I want it to do well but I hate for the word to get out too much because it will be crowded. It is fun for kids as young as 2 and for my 13 year old and her friends. The birthday parties are cheap! Well, compared to the ones that we've had at Ginger's. Ginger's parties are wonderful but it's not something that would do year after year.

Wait..I didnt do anything, just found out and then forgot. If I found out something like that I would be knocking on some doors the same business day trying to figure it out. Yall want me to run for commissioner? I have no experience at it but I have 2 kids so I am great at being referee, I can coordinate fund raisers and sell Sallie Foster gift wrap. I have no skeletons in my closet and I have a license. If I got pulled over while serving the great citizens I would make sure I did EVERYTHING possible to get out of it so yall wouldnt know about it. hehe isnt that the way it works?

me and the outdoors are not friends although Helen sounds nice. I do not like camping and am allergic to everything God created in the great out doors - Bees, wasp, poison ivy, grass (no kidding), pollen, mosquito bites make me swell up..I unfortunately could keep going. I went camping one time in my life and was miserable the 2nd day because I was covered head to toe and in my ears and nose with a rash from poison oak. Sad huh? Bless your heart! That would be an issue!

This is my first visit to the website and I am especially enjoying reading the forums. I'm glad to know that others witnessed some of the same things I have at the city pool. One of the days I went, all of the lifeguards were sitting together on the side of the pool near the bottom of the water slide. There was no one at the deeper end of the pool. Their conversation seemed to be way more important than saving lives!! There were people swimming in their clothes, babies without swim diapers, and kids cussing and bothering others in the pool. In general, very few people were following the rules, and none of the employees seemed to care or they were just scared to speak up. I went one step further than just complaining to them, I called the rec. dept. 2 years ago and had to leave a voicemail for the guy who is over the pool. I explained why I was calling, told him there were safety and health issues that had to be addressed, left my name and number, but never received a call back. Nothing will change if all of us who witness these things don't speak up!! Last, but certainly not least, my daughter went with a friend to the pool 5 years ago. A lifeguard is stationed at the top of the water slide to make sure only one person at a time goes down. My daughter, who was 10 at the time and small for her age, started down the slide. A rather large, older girl asked to go down right behind her. The lifeguard allowed her to. She knocked into my daughter as she was going down, thus causing her to hit her head on the side of the slide. She was knocked unconscious, and went to the bottom of the pool as she came out of the slide. A camp counselor there with a group of kids jumped in and pulled her out, not a lifeguard!! As she came around, naturally she was very disoriented. The mom of my daughter's friend called me. To make a long story a little bit shorter, she was checked out at the hospital and had suffered a concussion. I talked with several different people at the rec. dept. regarding what had happened. I complained about how the whole situation was handled as far as the lifeguards were concerned. I even attempted to have them pay the hospital bill, since my daughter's accident was a result of one of their employee's negligence. That never happened, and I just let it drop. My main point here is to make everyone aware of how things are run at the pool and to ask everyone to call and complain about it!!

I go to the pool on a regular basis and can honestly say that I have witnessed the lifeguards take action against people who are not following the rules at the pool. I have seen them escort the "trouble-makers" out of the pool for using bad language, not following the rules for going down the slide and being disruptive and loud. I have also seen them do the job that they are hired for - pulling people (kids) out of the pool who were having problems swimming. I have never seen any of the lifeguards be disrespectful or ignore the patrons of the pool. One of the replies to this post brought up events from 2 - 5 years ago. Those things should not apply to the here and now. The employees at the pool now cannot change things that happened in the past. They can only do their jobs and be prepared to save a life if the time comes. That is what they are there for. I know of parents who have gone to the pool on the day that their children attend with their summer camp. They too have seen the staff doing their jobs and have been happy with the experiences their children are having. It sounds like you had a bad experience, which is unfortunate. Maybe you should consider going to Horseleg or the Coosa Country Club if you feel uncomfortable around the clientele at the RFPRA pool.

I know that all of the RFPRA summer camps at the parks take day trips to the pool..................................it really worries me that all of the above is happening WITH the parents there..............................no telling what happens when the parents are gone................................ HOWEVER, it's probably good social skills for your children to learn that not everyone is nice people, and not all adults do their jobs..........

What I said in my previous post was that the lifeguards are doing their jobs, both when the parents are there and when they are not. I also have friends who take their children at times other than when the campers are there and believe it or not, the staff is still doing their job. It sounds to me like those of you who are being so judgmental about the area of town the pool is in and the "type" of customers that attend there need to find somewhere else to go. I think you will find there just aren't that many places you can go swim where you are not going to run into someone who doesn't fit the mold you want to be around, unless you join the "clubs" and then YOU might not fit the mold THEY want to be around. Yes, there are kids and adults who go to the pool who need some training in proper behavior. That is going to be true anywhere you go. Yes, the lifeguards kick them out and sometimes the ones being kicked out do get loud. At least they are being made to leave.
