I'll either spend the money to use a club pool for the summer, or my kids just won't go swimming. I can't handle being around "riff-raff".

Horseleg Plantation has reopened and you can buy summer pool memberships there.  We were members there for several years before they closed and it is very nice.  I'm sure it still is.  Although with gas prices like they are, it would probably be less expensive to put in you own pool.  I am thankful too that I have several choices for taking my children swimming.  I live in North Rome and go by the City Pool several times a day and can not imagine going swimming there.  We have been to several private parties there in the evenings in summers past and it was nice.  But still I wouldn't get in the water...not enough clorine on this planet!

Where is this city pool of which you speak? The last timeI knew we had a city pool was when it was at Barron Stadium. And how much do they charge?

If you know where the county water dept is, you go (coming from town) just past there and take the right fork at the light.  The pool is down a few blocks on the left.  I think it costs about $5 for 11-5.  They have season passes too.  It has a slide.  It is nice but we don't go much b/c my family has a pool.  We go every now and then so my kid can ride the slide.

Oh, that one has been there for a while. I can only imagine what that would be like.

It seems very small. I heard the county was going to put one in the Armuchee park.

Wouldn't that be great? I live across the road from there:P

Oh no, it's a large pool and the slide is great.  My kid goes up and down and up and down so many times that there is usually a nap involved on the way home.

I heard the same about Armuchee, but it seems like everyone gripes if Armuchee gets anything.....so I doubt it will happen.

Now you have to watch out for secondary drownings. Naps are bad.

I thought many, many, many years ago they did have one at Armuchee  Park, at the top of the hill and they filled it in.  Am I have a premature senior moment here???

yes, wishful thinking...................................the current plan is to dissolve the county police, sheriff's department and prison and take the saving to build the world's largest water slide............................it will begin at the new Bridge and end, after a 28 minute ride, in a pool the size of Rhode Island in Armuchee.........................................................................................................it will be expensive, they agree, but they intend to make rounds of the poorer neighborhoods once a week...................they will take the Enfamil out of the bottles of poor children, and trade it for Chlorine for the pool :D

Dear Lord, thank you for my new online friend that invites me over to swim thus saving me from the hell on earth torture of the city pool and Diaper City.  Amen.

My 7 year old daughter is going to camp Shannon through the Rec and they go to the city pool on Fridays. After reading the last post, I'm not so sure I want her going! I've never been to the city pool, mostly because of it's location. It's ashame that everyone can't enjoy it and that the life gaurds are too intimidated to do their jobs. They were hired to make sure the rules are followed and that no one gets hurt. It sounds to me like it's just an accident waiting to happen. I hope someone from the Rec reads this and will do what is nessasary to make changes.

I hope someone from the Rec reads this and will do what is nessasary to make changes.I can say that my 6 year old daughter attends Camp Anthony over in Garden Lakes and they go to the city pool on Mondays. My daughter told me yesterday that the pool was NOT as crowded as it was when we went on Saturday. I think the weekends are the worst because parents just give their kids the money to go to get out of their hair and possibly have jobs during the week.

By all means, go by there on a Friday and see what is going on. The counselors at Camp Anthony actually get in with the little ones and they are actually the life guards I depend on while she is there! However, I do agree with you in saying that I hope someone from RFPRA reads some of these comments and looks into them, but I am not getting my hopes up for any changes.

Oh I made a friend!

Hey..the guy at Kangaroos Jakes thought I was you.  Probably an insult to you, sorry.  Besides, I am one of those chicks that would point the gun at myself probably.  Never held one.  I want to take the class where you dont need a gun or ammo the 1st course so you can see but cant get anyone to call me back.  I think it would help with my aggression.  Anyway...sure you made a friend.  When's the pool party?  I will bring the hot dogs :)

I'm glad to know that the weekends tend to be more crowded. It's hard to put your child in the hands of others and you would think the people at RFPRA would be a little more picky as to who is watching out for them. But I'm like you, I don't expect to see it change. That's just the way this town is.
