Last week I went to the Walley World East, to get me some Cigs. A guy pulled up to me with some kinda story about his wife needing $10.00 to buy a tire for her car. I had $4.00 in my hand and just gave it to him. Had the same thing to happen at Kroger today. Told me he needed $10.00 to put gas in his car so he could get home, offered me a pocket watch with a Bass on it. I gave him some money and he did not put any gas in his car and left. I think with the high cost of gas they are hanging out at the discount gas stations hopeing to hit on people. I may have to start with a credit card, hate that.

i was in walgreens late the other night, nurses at the hospital on 3rd shift tend to walk over there for snacks, anyway this guy come up to me and another girl and told us some story about how he was out of gas and needed to go pick up his girlfriend and child. this was like 3 am come on, funny thing is he walked off and did not even get in a car. needless to say he got no money from me or the other girl.

ROP, that's an old one, and those folks at Kroger are there daily...........................................they've been arrested a few times and warned a thousand........................................... get a description, get a tag #, call 911..........give description and direction of travel this is usually the test.....................................ask to see his car (notice how they're never around it ((so that you're less likely to get tag #))).............tell him you will pump the $10 into his car IF he allows you to see his identification.............................................................imagine you're stranded and REALLY need help.......you willing to show your i.d. for $10 of gas to get where you're going??????????????????????? I've never had ONE willing to do it..........................there are several locations that they frequent, gas stations and car washes are the most common (car washes because people USUALLY have some form of cash on them at car washes..).............................kroger, kmart, walmart, bp station at calhoun rd and the bypass........................................

I am afraid we are going to see a lot more of this, I see a lot of people walking around in my neighboredhood now. Kinda funny, I was in Atlanta years ago. Had had sugrey on my foot with a cast and crutches. Close to where we were staying so I said we will walk. A panhandler hit us up close to the stadium which I expected. When the game was over with he was still out there and hit me up again. This time he stepped on my bo-bo and I smacked him with my cane. I can not tell you what I called him as I am getting low on peanut butter

RGS I normally drive two vechiles, one a truck and a Neon which I have to put on kinda underwear. Oh bad visual. I normally keep a digital camera in both, you want a picture of those red berries at the drive through at Hardees? So I did not have my digital, guess I might try getting out of my vehicle with it around my neck. The guy today kinda looked like Jerry, he did pull up to my car, reckon he recognized me as a member?

The easiest way to avoid this scam is to just keep on walkin! If your like me you need every cent you've got to fill your tank to get to work and back. Why give your hard earned money to some random person? But if you must... Do what a friend of mine did when we got pan handled walking out of a liquor store by some drunk bum.. Throw the change on the ground and make them scramble around for the change. Make 'em work for it!

There is a couple that is begging money from people for various reasons. His is an older white man and woman is in her 40's and African American. They drive a small 2 door red car that is bet up. They have came into our work and asked for money twice. She said that her son had died last month. She told us she had a gum infection and started asking us if we were going to pray for her and if we believed in God and went to church. Then she asked for 5 bucks to get gas to go to Alabama. I saw them today one the Loop. Just a heads up.

These aren't new scams. They have been around forever. Just not in rural America so much as in the larger cities. Just tell them to go away and be serious about it. 99% of the time they don't want a confrontation. Verbal abuse and rejection is just a part of doing business with these folks. They would rather just go to the next person before they raised an issue that would cause the authorities to notice them. I realize it's a pain, but it will get worse given the economic times we are experiencing.

You are so right Stoker. 40 years ago, in Chattanooga, there were little kids running around barefoot and dirty, asking for money. One little boy asked me for money for breakfast, I told him I wouldn't give him money but I would buy him breakfast at the Krystal (we were standing right in front of it and at that time they served a really good breakfast). He turned me down flat. He was begging the money to give to his father for alcohol and if he came home without the money, he would get a whipping. I have not seen any children out begging here but it wouldn't surprise me if we did start to see them. If someone needs shoes, I will buy them a pair, if they are hungry, I will buy them a meal. I will even put some gas in their car but I will not give them money.

On Sunday evening we were at the Floyd Cty Water Dept. putting our bill in the drop box. Two ladies came up to the car, they were coming from the recycling ctr. They asked me to roll my window down and proceeded to tell us that they needed a ride to their car (which they never told me exactly where it was), that they had been down to the salvation army to get money for gas. I asked them where their car was and where the gas was that they had gone to get to put in their car. They went on to tell me that they had a sister who was at Redmond and they had come down from Summerville to visit her and had run out of gas ( in North Rome). They went on and on with the Bless you and Please we are so tired of walking. I had a really bad feeling about this situation and I told them I was sorry but I wasn't going in the direction of their car. I felt terribly quilty afterwards but I also felt that their story had too many holes in it and hoped that I was right in not helping them. I will help anyone in a heartbeat but this just didn't seem right.
