Their newest editorial tells you that you should stay in Rome/Floyd County (Greater Rome as RN-T calls it) instead of going out of town for vacation, because there are many parks and attractions you haven't seen, and it will save gas/money........................................................funny thing is, this is EXACTLY the newest/latest pitch from Rome/Floyd Parks & Rec..................they're calling it "Become a Tourist in your Hometown"................................................. IMHO, it's more evidence that Rome News Tribune is nothing more than a mouthpiece for the governmental establishment in "Greater Rome".............................their reporting is nothing more than a regurgitated press release which they take at face value even when it defies common sense and logic..................................... IMHO, it also is more evidence of WHY RN-T never reports any negative information about the governmental establishment.........................................those who disagree are "naysayers" or "trouble makers"; an unspoken, unwritten (I hope) deal between the Rome News Tribune and their #1 sources, city and county officials, that "we'll print and defend anything you say or do, ignore all of your misdeeds and discredit anyone who points out corruption or mismanagement................as long as you promise to keep feeding us, and ONLY us (at least give us a head start) on happenings in county/city government"..........................

The many things that most I have talked to around this area do not even know exist. The Armucheehttp://www.sherpaguides.com/georgia/mountains/cumberland_plateau/armuchee_ridges.html Which encompasses many areas such as the Pocket recreation area and Hidden creek Recreation area. Sloppy Floyd State Park http://www.gastateparks.org/info/sloppy/ where they have many wonderful events for the kids through out the year. Berry College hiking trails http://www.berry.edu/recreation/recreationaluseplan.asp These are just a few of my favorites, and there are many more for those interested.

Sloppy Floyd State Park is one of my favorite places for a day trip. It isn't too far of a drive for us. We get to do a little fishing, and the picnic area is very nice, with lots of shade provided by big, beautiful trees. I'm sure we will make a trip or two down there this summer.

NOT RFPRA's new pitch... this has been a long-time campaign by the Greater Rome Convention & Visitor's Bureau.

Sloppy Floyd Lake Park is a good place to sit back and chill. It's a good getaway for an evening. Also, a lot of people don't know it, but there is a hiking trail to a nice cave with a small water fall. It's just under a mile hike I think. But part of it is uphill. So be ready to do some walking. But it's worth a picnic at the cave.

Give me a starting point, please.

We went to the Yellow River Game Ranch on Friday and had a great time. It is a few minutes past Stone Mountain, so you could do the Ranch in about 2 hours and then go to Stone Mountain. The Ranch was so cool! You can buy carrots and peanuts to feed the various animals there. Deer, chipmunks, and squirrels will walk right up to you and you can feed them. My 5 year old had a blast (well, my husband did too!). Here is the link to the website... http://www.yellowrivergameranch.com/ Hope you have as much fun as we did if you decide to go.

Heck, I don't care if you stay in Rome, I just want to see everyone stick close to the region this summer. But as far as vacation, Noccalulla falls in Gadsden totally rocks. Plenty to do there. And Sequoia Caverns, come to think of it... DON'T USE GAS, PEOPLE! Find a way to totally stay home at least one day a week, is the main thing. And cut down your weekday driving. Heck if everyone got with it and took one day off from driving, that's what, a 14 percent decrease is gas usage for the BGFAOCs? (Big Giant Fat *** Oil Companys) Let them try to explain supply and demand then!!! And don't fall for that email that's been going around for ages about "don't buy gas one day a week", that's baloney. Using gas is the issue, not buying it. What you don't buy today, if you don't stop driving, you will buy later. Not buying won't hurt anyone in the long run. Last edited on Sun Jun 1st, 2008 02:30 pm by Waterhead |

Waterhead, that's what I'm talking about! Take a "second life" vacation and stay home. Put up a WalMart blow up pool and get a tan in the driveway. Let the Oil Companies and their Arab friends drink their oil. And yes I know the US only get's about 15-20% of it's oil from the mideast, but staying home may reduce that to 0%! Heck, we could all meet at Waterhead's house and party for the weekend. Have a "American Oil Party" (Boston Tea Party)! You never know, you may even get to know your family if we stayed home a little more (I think that may be good?). Maybe not depending on your family.
