You know it really is a shame that everybody hates smokers.  Pretty soon we are going to have to hide in our closets to do it.  In Kentucky they just made it legal to test for nicotine for employment and you can be turned if it found in your blood stream.  Is that not some bull?!  Smokers are treated like criminals and looked down upon by alot of people but most of the smokers I know are nonconfrontational and don't really bother anybody for the most part.  If you don't want to smell my smoke then don't come near me!  Anyhow, I'm done fussing for the moment.  Just had to get that out.

Oh, but by the way...If you come to work in Materials Management at Floyd Hospital, you better not be a smoker because you will most certainly get discriminated against BIG TIME!

first off, let me admit that I still smoke....not much I still I will light one up.

With today's rising insurance cost, coupled with the fact that smokers have more medical problems as a group than non-smokers, it just may be legitimate to discriminate against someone who smokes.  Of course, if you wish to do that, include the obese in the same category, or heavy drinkers as well.  They too, have higher medical costs as a group.

Those who support all this crap about smokers not having any rights will be screaming the loudest when the next phase gets more attention. Obesity, diabetes, and drinkers are all the rage now with employers and insurance companies. I read the story on the grass seed company, Pennington, I believe, having in house medical and excercise facilities. If employees don't get weight matters under control after a year, they are subject to dismissal.  I do smoke and have never missed a day of work in 20 years. I was out for one week because I was in the hospital having my gall bladder removed. It is a little complicated story.  I don't have headaches or sniffles that require me to call in a couple times a month. I don't call in saying "I don't feel good".  The non-smokers do have quite a few bad days though. I guess carrying around an extra pound or two and drinking all weekend is more of a strain on health. I know I need to quit smoking, but the extra 20 lb.s might be the death of me. It makes me angry to be singled out and made to feel like I'm a criminal. If you are overweight or a drinker or have some medical problem your employer decides to regulate, GOOD LUCK. We'll all be in the un-employment line together. :X

I promise not to smoke if you don't  eat doughnuts or drink a beer. We all have less than perfect habits.  I've never met the person that is above receiving their share of criticism for some bad habit that has adverse effects on their health. We're none of us getting out alive. ;)

Unless we keep going and cause all health insurance to increase more and more.

Then what we do will hurt many.

I don't like non-smokers. They feel they have a right to change my life style, and they have the urge to preach to me about the nasty habit. Dang I know it, just kinda tired of hearing it. Who gives you that right? It's kinda like, I am better than you attitude. By the way second hand smoke has been debunked, just smells bad if you don't smoke. My carbon footprint from breathing is good for the trees.

General, you don't know how long I have put up with this. My sister want visit cause I smoke. Not in the house while she is here, and she grew up in a house where my Mother smoked. No Bigdaddy ain't responding to any one on here, just voiceing my thoughts.

Sorry you have the problem with your sis. I hope you still get to spend time with her even if it has to be somewhere other than your house.

She called last week and needed to spend the night (lives in Ala. and my brother was out of town, her husband had family in the Hos. here), I said yes and quit smoking in the house then. Nice visit. Course she scolded me about my smoking.

ROP, my oldest son scolds me all the time. He has been quit for a little over a year. They scold because they care about us.
