What happened? 230 years ago a group of people decided that self-government was the only path to freedom. They believed that each man should control his own destiny and that government should have very limited power and involvement. Why is it now that our government controls almost every aspect of our life? Is it for the better?

When you speak of tyranny, most people visualize a king or emperor who demands all from its populace but returns nothing. We say our government is for the people and by the people but it is not. If you are a republican or a democrat it doesn’t matter, both parties twist and change just to keep power. If “our party” is loosing votes because of a particular view then we change it.(At least in public) Lets try to buy some votes and damage the other party.(i.e. boost minimum wage and tell the voters that we are for the poor people, give a tax rebate and claim we want to help the economy) The right has a good idea so we must unite the left to defeat it (can’t let them get one up on us.) When will we have enough? Why can’t we call it what it is: partisanism and bureaucracy playing host to TYRANNY. Our representatives are so busy jockeying for position that our government has grown to monstrous proportions. Government controls almost every part of our life and only threatens to take more.

So who is to blame? WE ARE, we allow this to take place. We continue to roll over every time government takes from us. Our taxes are ridiculous, free market no longer exists, and our morals are legislated. We say well we have it better than any other country. People say “at least our taxes aren’t as high as Germanys”. But the truth is that it doesn’t matter if we have it better than someone else, what matters is: can we be better?

We know what we get with the two party system, so let's move on to something that makes a lot more sense. Voting Independent still only gives me two choices most of the time. A three or four party system would throw the status quo way off kilter, at least long enough to give our country back to the people and away from BIG BUSINESS. :X

It is too late..............we have created a country that depends on the Gov't to tell us how to think, give us what we need, protect us, and give us handouts which promotes absolutely no incintive to be the "rugged Individualist" that formed this once great nation.

If this country went through a "great depression" now, the mortality rate would be staggering.

If we had a war like WWII we would not only lose, but would get tired, forget, give in and quit.

It is our job to defend the country, not vice versa like the folks in New Orleans claimed.

It is our job to feed the country, not vice versa like some many undeserving able bodied pieces of crap do when they take advantage of  food stamps then trade $50.00 worth for a dime bag of weed.  (happens everyday)

These people are given everything..........housing, a check on the 3rd of the month, food stamps, recreation, protection, free childcare, free medical, free perscriptions...................and all they do is expect more and complain of those who make the above possible...................................IT IS THEIR MINDFRAME............they think it is an entitlement..................................God bless the USA!

I don't want to depend on anyone but me and my family/friends.

Deadbeats get to be deadbeats by the example of their parents. Look around you. How many people do you know personally that this fits? Generation after generation of a family jumping into this mindset. They know the ins and outs of the system. Ins like "I'm divorced and can't work because I have these 3 children to care for and my husband can only give $xx to help me out." In the meantime pappy is living in the home and making more babies with momma so the checks and food can increase with inflation. Every family I know on assistance can pi$$ away more money at Wal-Mart than any tax-payer that is supporting their "life style". Then you can add the assistance from churches. Year after year the same families are on the lists. No pride! The teenagers in the family produce a few kids and everbody is on easy street. Are there no time limits on all this BS.:X

OP I agree

Isn't it ashame that no one took heed to that statement, seems now that it was a foretelling of whats happening today. We need some people in office now with a spine that will not remain silent.

The Fifteenth Amendment is one of the Reconstruction Amendments. This amendment prohibits the states and the federal government from using a citizen's race, color, or previous status as a slave as a voting qualification.

Nope, that just gives them the right to vote in local and state elections, not Federal.

Teach a man to fish, and he will feed himself for life. Give a man a fish, and he'll end up on the government dole.
