Here's just one more reason that many of todays youth have no direction. You No longer have the right to remain silent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! School 'Moment of Silence' ban extended in Ill. Published: 5/29/08, 10:07 PM EDT By MIKE ROBINSON CHICAGO (AP) - A federal judge on Thursday barred school districts statewide from holding the daily moment of silence suitable for prayer that is required under state law. U.S. District Judge Robert W. Gettleman said he had given school districts time to object to his March 28 preliminary injunction on enforcement of the moment of silence law but received no objections. He therefore extended to the entire state the preliminary injunction originally designed to apply only to suburban Buffalo Grove District 214. The law passed by the Illinois General Assembly says every school district in the state must hold a nonreligious moment of silence suitable for prayer or contemplating the day's activities at the start of the day. Talk radio host Rob Sherman, an outspoken atheist whose daughter, Dawn, attends Buffalo Grove High School, sued to stop enforcement.

I don't think anyone's child should be forced to pray if their parents dissaprove, however, I do not think that a moment of silence is reason for a lawsuit. There are still parents and children who appreciate the oportunity to pray but that is just another right that has been taken away because someone else dissagrees. The time given was not forced prayer but time that could be used for thinking. Did I say "THINKING"? Is there a lawyer around who would like to file a lawsuit for "THINKING"?

oh hell they were shooting others when god was in school. Only difference was we did not have the internet and instant communication we have know to know about it all. Some people say that crime is rampaging in the streets and that has never happened before. I have one name that says it all on street crime in the past. Capone. One of the biggest issues today is we can not disapline our children without going to jail, and then if we dont disapline the kids we still go to jail. Used to be if a kid got in a fight at school, it usually meant they got it all out of their system and have the time ended up buddies, now it means 5 years in court and 20 in jail.

when I was in school.............we had a prayer time........................and I'm pretty certain that it had no influence on my decision to "not shoot people"..................... in fact, prayer in school may be dangerous..................................do a history search on mass murderers and see how many of them were "told by god" to do it

I am truly okay with a moment of silence. It can be used to reflect, pray, exhort, entreat, meditate etc.

Just a bit more difficult than it used to be. As long as the red marks are limited to the area of the buttocks, none of our people are going to intervene at all. While I can't speak for FCPD and RPD, I would bet their approach is similar

True Bill but I meant in general nowadays. I read an article about 9 years ago about a poor guy in I think Buffalo. His kid was caught stealing a car at 13 or 14 and the father ended up with 5 days jail time for not controlling his kid. 1 year later the kid got caught by dad doing something else, so dad paddled his rear, DFACS was called even testified it was just rear, dad went before same judge and got 6 months Jail. Dad told judge to keep the friggin kid as he was d**ned if he did and d**ned if he didnt. Judge gave another 2 months for contempt. gotta love this nice world today.

I could do a search but I would have to start with the Bible. I am not a Bible thumper who thinks that religion is the answer to everything, however, I do believe in God. I do not believe in pushing my beliefs on others, but a moment of silence need not be considered as pushing religion. With 2 little ones around most of the time, I would welcome a moment of silence. My point was not that everyone would pray during that time, but that the time its self does no harm. The people and groups who file these types of lawsuits are essentially getting government involved in taking away more of the rights of others. When courts tell me I can't smoke, I can't pray, I can't post the 10 commandments in a public place, I can't wear baggy pants (I bet I would look great in them), etc. They are taking away my rights whether I wish to exercise them or not. These are not laws being passed for the benefit of mankind, they are laws to restrict mankind from thinking and making his own decisions.

That's why when my children got in to fights, I told them to go out side and kill each other so they wouldn't get blood on the carpet.
