First off, when you make an advertisement for radio, please remember that not every single person is listening intently to what you say, nor are they always "on station" the instant you begin to speak. Therefore,

"This thing is happening on this date at this time, and there's all this stuff about it that will pique your interest to no end, and now that I have your undivided attention, see you there"

would become,

"This thing is happening on this date at this time, and there's all this stuff about it that will pique your interest to no end, and now that I have your undivided attention, see you on this date at this time".

Simple, no?

Secondly, if you are having - let's say a contest, and you play music while you take calls, do you realize that no one can hear you other than yourself and the person on the phone you are talking to when they call in with an answer? Shockin' ain't it? Recently, there was an improbable question posed, and I knew the answer. It was the picture on your driver's license. I told my son to call and say, "the picture on your driver's license", at which point he actually got through, and said, "your driver's license" (imagine that; a teenager who doesn't follow directions), and then said, "huh? hello? She hung up on me". We listened, and sure enough, after the song is over, we hear, "first caller",
"is it an ID?"
"be more specific please"
"a picture ID?"
"oh, so close, we need to know what is on the ID that would embarass you, bubye"
"second caller"
"your driver's license"
"sorry, you need to listen to the clues! bubye now".

*note that these calls were the first callers through, so there were no on air clues given prior to these attempts.

Okay, I'm no Einstein, but please, how can a person on the phone hear the caller before them if the conversations aren't played live on the air? Did this lady dye her hair from Blonde to Brunette or something? Helloooooo, if you're going to give the first caller a chance to get it right, don't dump the second caller and tell them to listen to the clues, better yet, give them the same second chance the first person got, mkay? bubye now! Dork.

Jeez. I don't care to listen to this particular contest because they have such moronic topics, such as maybe something like, "according to some magazine, 75% of the population says that occasionally they perhaps might once in a while maybe do this". How arbitrary can you get? I'd much rather listen to Paul Harvey, but the kids like to guess the answers, so I let them go ahead and try while I bite my lip and deal with it. And I don't even like Chick-Filet, so it's not like I'm going to be beating the door down to win the contest anyway!

Well, let's see...an "improbable" question.  Hmm...Q102?  Why not just shoot Randy Quick an email about it.  Go from the standpoint that it's not about winning or losing, but about the principle of the thing - that in order for the product to have crediblity and loyalty it has to have integrity, and that comes from conducting everything, including contests, in a way that makes sense.  I personally would rather listen to Karli than Randy Rhodes...his consistent rambling and difficulty spitting out what he's trying to say is annoying.  Typically I tune over to Q at 5:20 for an afternoon news report because I can't ever seen to make it to the car by 5:04 to hear it on WRGA.

I do like listening to Randy in severe weather becasue he is very detailed and gives frequent and up to date info...

as for the news... back in the day, WRGA did news up into the evening. I am not sure why they stopped doing that.

see, I would love to see the 6pm channel 2 action news replaced by a local news talk show...something a bit more "hard news"-ish than Doug's morning show.  but I bet our market wouldn't support it.

I use RNW and hate to admit it but RNT for local news, other then that I have XM radio on with BBC America news.

I used to watch CNN headline news, but they rarely seem to have news anymore, it is all talk with Nancy - Larry - and others which I have yet to figure out how that is news.
