As with many  marketing changes to increase  revenues that many major market stations around the country are doing, it seems that 96.5 The Mountain(WDOD FM) has  changed its  music format to ''hit music''.. the old format of progressive  rock/modern  new rock has  evidently seen its better days... the switch seems to  be  towards  a mix of rock, pop and  hip-hop. evidently they have done the research and  have decided that  they needed to target the 18 through 25 year olds.. and teenagers...anyways  it is a change that  many people appreciate, while others  denounce...the  ones who  dont like the new format, are  the ones who got used to  the mountain playing music from The Offspring, Nirvana, Tool,Pearl Jam, and other rock greats of the modern rock, with a mix of  some classic rock  songs from  the earlier rock scene...  Now  you can hear  hit music  artists like T-Pain,  Miley Cyrus, Brittney spears, Rhianna, and others just to name a few... mixed in with an occasional  classic 96.5 the mountain replay of the old rock set... it is different , to say the least....im really not sure if i like it yet or not, but...the kids love it....and since we are in the Chattanooga listening area , it is a welcome change from the  Ol' stand  by  WQTU FM (Q102 which hasnt changed in years since it was an oldies station...so  perhaps ill give it a listen.. they cleaned house, and let most of the staff at ''mountain, except for  ''brad, and jason, and victoria..   and the morning show consists of ''Kid Craddock"" whose show originates syndicated from  NEW YORK of all places.... so we will see  if this hit music thing will''FLY..   who knows?...maybe  they are on to something... increased sales revenue through larger listenership....what a concept!!!..... i may even program it into my ''push button number 3 on my car radio....instead  of number 5 or 6 .... good luck to the WDOD fm  team with this new  brainstorm....

Try 105.9.  They play a lot of older rock music after 11 a.m.

Don't forget the new True Oldies 106.7  They have a mile-deep playlist...over 1500 songs. I'm liking their mix so far.

I used to listen to 99x and 96.5 all the time but they both moved over to pop stations. 99x is now on HD Radio though.
The only good stations now are 96.1 and 97.1

XM radio isn't that expensive. Just the cost of the actual radio itself. You can go quarterly with 12.95 a month or all the way up to a 3 year subscription for 9.99 a month.
Right now I'm saving up for a radio, so in the mean time I just use my MP3 player in the car.
