Tourism 4 Rome wrote: I want to address the CVS that is being built on the corner of the Connector (Veterans Memorial Hwy) and Hwy 27/Martha Berry Blvd. This new CVS is going to destroy the view shed of two very important historic sites to the city of Rome and to the State of Georgia: the Gates of Opportunity and the Home of Martha Berry.  Berry College is not only recognized by the State of Georgia, but it is World recognized.

Now, come on City of Rome and Berry College, are you really this short sited?  Not only that, but are you all really this stupid and so blinded by the dollar signs in your eyes? Is trading the quality, integrity and beauty of one of Georgia's State treasures really worth the revenue that you are going to make off of this new CVS?  This new CVS that is within a 1 mile radius of 3 other drugstores?

Tourism is second only to agribusiness as one of top industries in Georgia. The industry employs 209,500 Georgians, contributes $25 billion in direct and indirect dollars to the economy, and brings in $1.12 billion in state and local tax revenues. Heritage Tourism is part of that. Heritage tourists stay longer and spend more than regular tourists. With that said: WHAT IS THE CITY OF ROME AND BERRY COLLEGE DOING?  Do they not realize that they are going to trade the integrity and beauty of a World recognized college and 2 of its integral historical sites for a short sited revenue quickie, and deny Romans and Georgians the opportunity to enjoy the beauty and revenue that is coming as the tourism industry in Georgia grows?

Bless your heart. I freaked when I heard about it, too, until I saw the blueprints and saw it was going behind Wachovia, not up by the gate.

BUT, please alert us if you find any more historic sites threatened. We're already losing the duck pond, no telling what else we'll be losing.

I don't need a job. I'm retired 76 years old. I guess i could start sticking my nose in everyone business since i have nothing else to do. As for looking forward to it i don't shop at CVS. I use Winslette Pharmacy. I would write a few more things about your post but i will remain a gentleman and let it ride.

Let's not name call - he is entitled to his opinion just as you are.  I don't think he was being rude either, I agree with him, if you don't like it don't go there. Same with any business, if people don't like it or agree with it, don't go there.

This whole forum is about people expressing their opinions.......  when people start the tacky comments about people and the way the live ( as in bold above) that is when the moderators have to step in to keep everyone in line.  I think you owe him an apology because you know nothing about this person and the life he has!!!!

Thinking out loud said it right, you can say it but say it nice.

There is also the possibility that they will move one of the older CVS pharmacy's into the newer building. That is what they did in Cedartown, when they built the new building, they closed the old one and moved in the new one. I do know the building at Turner McCall and Hwy 53 is looking pretty old and it is very small. I haven't seen the site for the new building so I will reserve any comment on that.

I do apologize for the name calling-but it wasn't necessary for oldman to say some of us need to get a life!!  We are here to give our opinions and that's what I like about coming on here-but don't need anyone telling me we need to get a life.  so-yes it hit me the wrong way-I apologize.

Edited to add-I guess he doesn't owe us an apology for his rude comment-that wasn't an opinion-that was a rude statement-don't you think????

I do go there-I just said they are too expensive but I do use their pharmacy-so, was that wrong for me to say too?? just curious as I thought we could voice our opinions on here without getting attacked verbally by another member..... just a thought. Not an argument as that is not why I come on here.  thanks & have a blessed day.

Leah, my statement was to everyone posting. Some don't like the idea of a CVS being put near that corner, some have no problem with it. It's ok to say what you think about the building, but not to abuse other posters and that is inclusive of all posters.

I, too, have made uncalled for remarks on some of the threads and ended up stepping on my own tongue. It is the moderator's job to try to keep things from getting out of hand with name calling, etc. It is not a job that I am paid for, it is not always a job that I like, I do it because I enjoy the conversations and debates and would like everyone else to be able to enjoy them.

I am thinking they may close the Shorter Ave and the 27 north stores. We will know in several months.

Oh yes-I totally agree with you and understand your job-I do apologize to Oldman & anyone else I may have offended.  I knew your statement was for all, however when I said I felt like I was verbally attacked -I meant by thinking out loud & old man.  It's all okay now.  I ate peanut butter for breakfast & lunch.  :D   I can't believe I did that-I usually keep it to myself- like I said earlier-it just hit me wrong- next time something hits me wrong-I'll get the peanut butter and be quiet.  LOL  thanks Spice!!!-you are a great moderator and I know it's a hard job.

You know i too agree that we have way to many pharmacies here in rome, that being said, that is my opinion and mine alone, if they close 1-2 stores there will be no more jobs than there already is. I also hate that they tore down that pretty house there on the corner but oh well, guess that's progress. I hate new buildings going up everywhere but then again my opinion.
