Ate there for lunch today. Classy and delicious! The decor is very clean and tasteful--I was there for lunch but I bet it would make an excellent romantic dinner spot. Everything was very fresh and well-prepared. I had a lamb pita and eggplant dip (baba ganouj). The chef came out to check and make sure I was enjoying my experience.

The prices are high for lunch, but just about right for a nicer dinner. It's in line with Harvest Moon/Bistro 239/Crystal Thai/Sassafras Grille. If you like to support local independent restaurants, give it a try.

I need to try it... I like middle eastern food.

Love Crystal Thai.. had that for dinner last night. Harvest moon is good but I have to be in the mood. I like Bistro but we have had issues with them lately. Never been to Sassafras but should probably try it.

They'd make a good feature article.

The place is middle eastern, I think the chef is from Jerusalem, and he's got pale skin and bright red hair like an Irishman. All in all, high potential for an interesting story.

Besides, any story that involves the words "hooka bar" has got to be interesting.

The 'chef' in question is named Yousef Abbasi.  He is the owner and I highly doubt that he is cooking as well.  Nice guy, though.

He and his family own all the Wendy's in town.  His in particular is the one on Turner McCall.  If Silwan is nice now, I just hope it stays that way.  Judging from that Wendy's, it may not remain a nice establishment for long.  The Turner McCall Wendy's is probably the worst one in town.

Had Silwan tonight... was good... a tad bit expensive but worth the price if you are in the mood for middle eastern food.

All in all, it was a nice place and the food was really good. They have done a lot of work on the building and it looks great too.

I've had Middle Eastern food. Wonder if that restaurant in Bahrain ever found a new supplier since the SPCA left the area?

Hi, Thank you all for your kind words and curiosity about Silwan.

I would like to reply to a concern from DCravers post.

My family does have the Wendy's in town, but this establishment is a far cry from fast food and franchise politics.  You can not compare apples to oranges.

As far as cooking goes, I have designed the menu that we serve as well as the specials, along with the recipes.  I have trained, and continue to train my staff daily, both front and back of the house to ensure consistant guest satisfaction.

As far as cooking goes, who do you think shows the staff how things are to be prepared and executed.  I do spend majority of my time at the restaurant, in the kitchen.

Yousef Abbasi
Executive Chef/Owner
Silwan Restaurant and Lounge

We ate at there right after it opened and plan to eat there again.  The food and service were very good.  There were items on the menu that people who think they do not like middle eastern food would enjoy.

The new Sushi restaurant  (Ru San ?) is open and we wanted to try iit since I love that type food.  It was not a good experience.  The hostess station is immediately to the right of the front door which caused  people waiting to be seated to block the entrance.  We were seated at the table closest to the kitchen  noise and commotion even though there were quite a few other tables and some booths available.  We asked to be moved and they gave us a booth.  While looking over the appealing menu, the already loud and annoying music was turned up.  I asked the server if it would remain that way and she said that was the nature of that restaurant.  We decided to leave and eat elsewhere.  If we wanted to listen to loud party music we would go to a nightclub.  At dinner I expect to have soft background music that can be talked over.   The music they were playing was a disturbing beat and very loud.   To me, dinner music should play softly in the background, not make me a nervous wreck trying to shout over it to my dinner companion.  We will not return.

I'm planning on going to Silwan's later in the week.  What would yall recommend

Yeah... Silwan is good... probably a bit over priced for the quantity you get but the food is good.

If the price were a bit lower or the quantity a bit more, it would be great...
