Just me I have not put words in anyone's posts. And I know you were speaking of restaraunts but I was comparing this to plant closings.  My point is what's the difference.

I also stand by my post.  Don't think I have wavered at all.  And I don't think that we disagree that much.  You seem to be making one point and I another.  You just need to read the posts more carefully.

Well my point still stands for any situation so far, they have all had warnings.

I also know 3 people that were at Carino's that saw this coming, My wife was one, and got out before it was to late and went to work at Krogers.

These things happen all the time now and you shouldn't blame the employees for not seeing it coming or not finding another job sooner.  The person I knew at Carinos was looking for another job because he had finished college and wanted something better.  I don't think the fact that he was still there when it did close was anyone's fault.  He had to work somewhere until he found another job.  It might have been the same with the folks at hooters.  I'm sure that many of them probably would have liked to find another job but jobs are not easy to find.

OH that is so cool D, My mother has been at kroger for 21 years. Back to the topic at hand, i feel bad for the ppl who lost their jobs this week but they are not the first and won't be the last, they will get through it just like everyone else and they will be better for it. Maybe lots of them will find other jobs and leave hooters looking for new help when they reopen. Besides the corporate hooters has not said anything yet, these people may just get 2 weeks off with pay, who knows?

People always say jobs are not easy to find, but those willing to work always seem to find them.  I know 3 restaurants that are hiring, five fast food joints, and numerous gas stations.  Problem is they all pay low wages so people say well I can not work for that.  Well working for that is better then not friggin working.

I do feel for the workers, but they should also have known it was coming as this fight in this restaurant has been going for a very long time.  Carino's was going down for a very long time, and textiles were going down hill since the 80's at least.

Hell I was working in a company answering calls for 56k phone internet service, I knew it was coming, it was just a question of time.

So you know, we also do not blame employees, but I do find great humor in the owners losing there asses in a ton of money in food.  My only regret is that the order did not say the food should be sent to a shelter instead of a dumpster.

Be that as it may, the owners of hooters tried to screw the land lord in hopes of just making until the new building was ready and never paying rent

they new this would happen.

I have no respect for thieves of this sort and have no plans on going to hooters new or old in rome under current owners.

WOW there's a lot of hostility in here. You people chill out already.

Now, wasn't there some kind of issue that Hooters had with Ledbetter Properties, and that was why they weren't paying rent? If so, I think the folks at Hooters should have known that the Ledbetters get what they want. Stuff like land worth millions of dollars for a few hundred thousand, even though someone bid almost double what the Ledbetters bid? (note to self: maybe some thing about a budget being off, and blah blah, something about some local something being in dire straits, blah blah, something about what if they had sold to the highest bidder, blah blah)

Anyway, Hooters will be better off where they are moving. And I got me a genuine Hooters Picnic table out of the whole deal!!! Someone in a white truck ran off with one just before we got over there, and we offered the manager 20 bucks for ours and he said great, take it.

Woot woot.

(but really, ya'll settle down. This place is starting to turn in to a typical forum. Used to not be that way)

They have the same opportunities of the rest of us. You CHOOSE your path. Go to school and get that education or stop whining and make the most out of your job.

I've had MANY wonderful waitresses/waiters, and then again I could write a best seller on the bad ones. You can tell when someone is happy with their job....or not.

Frail, drop it.  I dated a waitress that decided to get preg at 16, used to help her roll her tips.  My wife worked for a friend of hers after he bought a business as a waitress only to help him out..........like stated it is all about choices.

Welcome to Real World 101

This is today's economy and business ethics

May as well get used to it. We are the ones that created it and allow it to continue, and applies to both sides of the agenda, corporate as well as labor.

Hooter's is just another example.

I never said that what happened was funny. I said the VIDEO was funny. I said the funniest part of the whole "thing" ... after I asked if anyone had seen the video.  Just for clarification, if you'll continue to read you'll see the statements I made about feeling sorry for folks.  So, I suppose your interpretation of what I meant was incorrect.

I'll not join in on the discussion as to people losing jobs, choosing to continue to work in places, etc .... as I have been there recently and I KNOW what if feels like.

If I didn't have a bit of humor in life, I'd be crazier than I already am.  I truly don't think ANYONE meant things the way you thought initially.  This thread has escalated since then however.

Just a simple reminder to all, attack the opinions and issues, not the person posting them.

I apoligize for my sounding gruff, but to tell me I dont know how it is, was over the top, when I better then most here know exactly how it is, as I stated I was laidoff, but knew it was coming, as the people in this situation should have known.

I also know restaurants better then most, as I grew up in them, have worked every aspect of them, and have even co-owned more then one.  So yes i know all sides of this coin, and while I do feel some remorse for the employees that hoped to work yesterday, I also know most will be working by Friday in other places, as I am certain most knew it would be coming and had prepared for it.

ROP, a good waiter/waitress can bring home well over 100 dollars a night. For many, that's a pretty choice choice, wouldn't you say?
Besides, many people work as wait staff part time in the evenings to augment their income (I did, and brought home more in tips in three of the slowest nights of the week than I brought home all week from my daytime govt job. but then I totally rock at waiting tables. Sadly, I also totally rock at being a jerk... sooooo, ah... I don't waitses no tableses no more. :) ) and for other people (students in college who will move on to better jobs) it is their main source of income.

Don't stereotype the staff. They bring your food. :)
