I can tell you for sure that the employees did not know... many of them showed up for work when we were there and as you saw in the video, a new employee was hired yesterday and came in to start his first day today!

Be that as it may, the owners of hooters tried to screw the land lord in hopes of just making until the new building was ready and never paying rent

they new this would happen.

I have no respect for thieves of this sort and have no plans on going to hooters new or old in rome under current owners.

What does any of that have to do with my post??  Sorry if I don't find it amusing that perfectly good food was thrown in the trash and employees showed up for work to find the workplace sitting in the parking lot.  When we take joy in others misfortunes we usually have some on the way for ourselves

Oh i never once said i take joy in it.

I take joy in the owners losing money as they deserve it.

But all employees must have known they had a chance of this happening, as it has been news in Rome for awhile that they were seeking evection.

Then my post was not about you.  I was talking about how humorous some of the posters found the fact that the manager was suprised to learn that perfectly good food was thrown in the trash.  I'm sorry but if I had driven by and seen anyone having their business moved out to the parking lot by sherrif's deputies or whoever does that, the last thing that would come to my mind is that it's funny.  I think that I would think about the employees that depend on that place for a living and could find no humor in it at all.

i wouldn't worry too much about the employees.....................the waitress and cook pool in rome will be a little less diluted for two weeks than normal, that's all...........................all restaurants are always looking for someone who can take an order, enter it correctly, refill drinks and ask once or twice if anything is needed............without doing something to totally annoy or piss off the customer.....................

most restaurants have two or three who fit this bill and the rest are bumbling idiots...................for two weeks, there will be a few more waitresses

Apparently you know nothing about the kind of work these people do.  They work very hard, they put up with a lot of crap from people that are probably a lot like you sir and many folks do it for years not because they are uneducated or unskilled but because they make good money.  And there aren't many jobs in Rome anymore where you can make a decent living even if you have an education.

Sorry most of you can't find empathy for folks that are going to be out of work even if it is just for a few weeks.  I know someone that worked at Carinos.  He went to visit family over christmas holidays and when he got back his job was gone.  It took him quiet a while to find a job because there are just so many people out there needing jobs.  So don't assume that they just can just go find another job so easily

I know the job better then most, and yes RGS there is a hell of a lot more to it then that.  That is like saying a cop does nothing but sleep when he can, pull over people to write tickets for fun, and really is worthless outside of that.

But my point is any employee at Hooters that did not know this may happen was a blind fool.  Also at Carino's any employee there should have known they were swimming against the stream, as that place was going done for a long time.

Degalos would you say the same about the employees at the Mohawks that have closed or any of the other plant closing that have taken place lately.

I have a lot of respect for these people.  Both of my kids have worked in the industry.  I wouldn't even have tried to do a job like that.  I don't have the temperament.  Someone like Sir would have sat at my table the first day and the company would have to pay his dry cleaning bill and I would have been fired.

Lighten up! I don't think any one was excited ppl would be out of a job.

I have no sympathy for the one that KNEW the rent was past due and evidently tried to beat the clock to get to the new place before eviction. This person is the one that cheated the employees out of a job (and maybe a paycheck??).

I would never laugh at someone out of a job. We ALL have food to put on a table and a roof to keep over our heads. The thing is we WORK for this, and we expect at least respect from our employers.

Communication between bosses/employees would've helped in this situation. Of course had they done that, they may not have had employees because had it been me, I would've already found another job BEFORE I was out of work.

If we didn't pay our mortgage, we would be really naive to think we could just keep living in our home. Rent is the same! :?

As far as the poor waitresses that do it for the income you were speaking of, they do it by choice or they do it because they don't have enough education to do otherwise. They have the same opportunities of the rest of us. You CHOOSE your path. Go to school and get that education or stop whining and make the most out of your job.

I've had MANY wonderful waitresses/waiters, and then again I could write a best seller on the bad ones. You can tell when someone is happy with their job....or not.

I feel very sorry for the employees. I don't feel sorry for whoever CAUSED this to happen to them.

Yes actually I would say that, the carpet mills and textile mills have all been going either overseas or to new mechanical plants, and most people have known that for years, same as most big companies.

Yes even one I worked for sold out went under.

Left me sitting with our second child on the way, in a new mobile home we just purchased and as over 85000 people from raliegh to sc border were laid off within about 1 month, mcdonalds was hiring managers at min. wage because they could.

That is why i went in deep debt moving here working my a** off and getting back to almost ahead again.

Yes I also saw it coming, but hoped against hope that it wouldnt.  But I was prepared for it as I had enough saved and enough resources to barrow to move me when it did happen.

That was 6 years ago now, and there are no d**n tears here, just reality.

There is never communication between employer and employee when something like this happens.  I go back to the plant closings.  Do you think these people knew that it was coming.  I can tell you that the employees that worked for the plants that have closed thought that they would have a job until they retired.  There's always rumors but management always assures workers that everything is okay.  I'm glad that this has never happened to you but it could.

And you're wrong if you think they only do it because they don't have education to do othewise.  You would be suprised how many folks in plants and restaraunts have degrees.  You would be suprised how much they can make.  It is comparable in many cases to what someone can make that has a degree.

Just me you are the one that is naive to think that you would know what you would do.  The way things are today, we never know.  You might go to work tomorrow and your job might be gone.  Would that make you stupid for not finding another job before you lost your job?

No I also said I had started to prepare for it, and within 2 months of being laid off was living in Rome, and working 5 side jobs until I was hired at the Library.

I still have numerous side jobs until I am fully cuaght up.

So back to what I did say, is only a fool would not have seen it coming. I may have been a foolish for staying so long, but it did give me time to save for it.

I was speaking of restaurants....and waitresses.....NOT plants and the industry.:?

I will say if I was working in a plant and we had short time (again and again), or business was off....I'd have a heads up that something is going to happen. Jobs are hard to find, therefore I'm sure some have had to stick it out until it closed (or didn't).

I NEVER said any one was stupid. I think you are judging ppl and putting words in ppl's posts.

We HAVE been through a closing. The entire time they tried to convince the employees "no, we won't close"...yadda yadda. My hubby left the company (nope he's not naive either) and less than 3 mos. later they DID close up.

Just don't accuse ppl of things they haven't even posted. No one laughed at this situation. What did that manager think would happen? They'd keep his food intact until he could do what he needed to do with it?

If a person is evicted from their home and given notice (as Hooter's was) you make arrangements BEFORE the day of.

I still stand by my posts. We can agree to disagree. Your opinion is yours, and you have that right. So do I, we, or whoever.;)
