Nice article Jerry. For those who think Fricks went unpunished, he was handcuffed, thrown into a police car and told that the police officer had lost trust in him because he lied to him, and all that has been aired on several modes of the news media. He has paid fines, bond, and evidently taken care of his licence problem. He also had to face Laura (msla) during a commission meeting in which she firmly chastized him for not being more honest. I don't believe the average Joe off the street would have garnered this much bad publicity for traffic and drivers license violations. I personally, could not say the man got off lightly.

In terms of his sentencing, I think he did get off lightly since his license had been suspended since 2001 and the judge reduced it to a warning. But as they say, "You may be able to beat the charge, but you can't beat the ride" ...(or something like that).

It also looks like this really isn't going to have any kind of affect on his political career. Oh well. We tried, especially msla.

I recommend that the people of Calhoun and Gordon County raise a issue about the judge up there showing what appears to be favoritism to Fricks.  I bet that if they went to court with suspended license the judge wouldn't give them a warning.  I bet he would issue the sentence that is prescribed by law and they would be doing some time and paying a nice fine and also doing the probation thing.  Sounds like the sentence and charge were Fricks'ed.

I still think he should step down, but he didn't go unpunished. :)

Too bad msla wasn't the judge. ;)

True, but do you think the average person would have got the same sweet heart deal he got.  Plead nolo and get off with a warning for violating the law and knew it. How about the fact that he without a doubt lied to a police officer, and it captured on video. Was he punished enough?, I dont think so. He is still a sitting commissioner in Floyd County. One of our fearless leaders that has taught all of us that it is ok to break the law for a period of time, lie about it and get a.....  Warning and Never say your sorry for what you did to the people you represent.

What do I really think....... For the love of goodness, Find us somebody for a write in vote and let the FRICKSTER know how we feel about him.

No, but the average person wouldn't have made the news and a forum, etc..;)

I still think the public awareness was punishment. I didn't say ENOUGH, but punishment.

The average person would have possibly had their name in the paper and then again in the Roman Record.  Being embarrassed isn't enough.  Besides, I thought it was mandatory 24 hours or a weekend in jail for driving without license

Belle, there might be such minimum punishments.  By pleading nolo though he has not been CONVICTED of the crime, therefor the punishments are not manditory.

Fricks pled Nolo Contendere (no contest) to the charges of no proof of insurance and speeding.  The license charge and the tag charges were reduced conventently to warnings.  His total fine was probably less than $50.00.  Isn't justice great.

I can sum it up in one compound word= BULLCRAP. Fricks didnt learn nothing, lie to police hes better than they are. Violate the law for 7 Years. Get caught , dont say squat to the citizens of Floyd County. I believe in simple math and heres how it adds up:

suspended license 7 years + lying to the police about your license+ being a County comissioner(elected offical) +  making no comment to the people that elected you+ getting your violation having been being committed for 7 years reduced to a warning = #1 P.O. C

Piece of crap, I said it nice for the ladies. I sure hope he never expects to have the respect of the voters of Floyd County, its a shame hes going to be in office 4 more years. If nobody announces that they are going to run against him next time I will.

We need to find a way to let him know when we go to the polls in November that we are not happy with him and would rather not have him in office. Hell I will write in Mickey Mouse rather than give him a vote.

That's pretty lame.  Guess it's not what you know but rather WHO you know.

I am loving all of the comments made about this and on the other hand it really upsets me.  You are right, if that had been you or I, God only knows what would have happened to us.  Also, to plea, "NO CONTEST" or "NOLO".  Would we have been given the same chance?  Is there laws for certain people and different laws for others?  I will say that I feel sorry for his family but beyond that, I have no "Sympathy".  I stand my ground by saying that all laws should be the same for each and everyone.  Also, they should not be allowed to remain in any type of office to represent the fellow citizens.

Actually, the judge responds very similarly to every case that is similar to that. If anyone is caught without a license, they can go get one and have their charges reduced to a warning.

I am not saying what he did was right but I am letting you guys know that he did not get special treatment.
