We replaced all of our regular bulbs with those and our power bill is about $50 less each month over last year. It cost a bit to replace them all but they paid for themselves in about 4 months and they are supposed to last like 10 years or something...

I was unaware that legislation had been passed regarding these bulbs I don't use them because I knew about the mercury content and disposal methods many people will use them and not know the proper disposal methods...I think by using these bulbs to save energy...we are putting our environment at risk I can't see where the savings is worth the risk rather than push these dangerous bulbs...they should be pushing solar ...wind and water power sources which are safe and efficient

Of course, anybody who is AGAINST using these bulbs is going to come up with all sorts of dangerous things about them. The bottom line is...they do save energy...and until we can do something greener, we should try to do whatever we can. I don't see that the mercury can be that big of a deal. Mercury is in all the thermometers used to take our temperatures when we were kids and we all turned out fine. I'm sure one or two of us has even had one break while we were around. The amount that is in them is probably very small like a thermometer. The whole being from China part bothers me more than the mercury!! It seems like China is trying to kill us a little bit at a time!!

yes..mercury is present in items such as antique organs, pendulum clocks.. washing machines..light switches and even jewelry since reading this topic..I looked up some info on EPA website...actually..coal powered power plants are our biggest source of mercury poisoning...I'm glad I read up on the subject more because I have found out that I was NOT informed here are a few facts: CFLs contain a very small amount of mercury sealed within the glass tubing – an average of 4 milligrams – aboutthe amount that would cover the tip of a ballpoint pen. By comparison, older thermometers contain about 500 milligrams of mercury – an amount equal to the mercury in 125 CFLs. I played with mercury all the time when I was a kid, chewed on lead paint windows and toys, and chewed on alsphalt. Drank out of creeks and ate pork 3 days later. I ask before, am I still alive. A woman recently dropped one of these and it said call HazMat. Cost her $2,000. Want to save energy, one light per room, turn off the extra TV's, crank up the AC's. If you want to be green, go ahead, but be willing to obey the law and pay.....why do they call it green? I have a few of these and they last about a year, but the light is good for my camera. I breath out Carbon, now they want to tax my footprint.

Holy Moly! Someone just broke one of those bulbs on my bedside table! I guess I will be sleeping in a tent in my yard tonight. If my hair starts falling out and my lips start peeling, we know these bulbs are a menace.
