I think it safe to say that we have all made a mistake in our lifetime that we regreat or wish we could take back. While most of us do not seek or hold a political office, it is human for us to mess up, or as he said "screw up." I'm just glad that he admitted it, faced it and was honest. That's something a lot of politicians wouldn't do. So, no, he wasn't right, but, he's one of us, someone who messes up and makes mistakes and all we can do is forgive him and hope that these mistakes are learned from by not only him bout our fellow commissioners as well. Let's not be so judgemental! Not sure that the comment above is comendable? First of all, if he was honest, he would not have been driving around for 7 years w/o a valid license and that's not considered an average, every day mistake, not to me anyway. Second of all, he couldn't deny it and he also had no choice but to face it. So what are we giving him credit for? Pulling over and taking his punishment? If he had not been speeding (breaking the law) would we had ever known, would he had ever gotten his license straigtened out? Who knows but my gut tells me no he would not have. I'm not sure that we need to "forgive" Mr. Fricks for what he has done, it's nothing to personal to me. But I do think that his position in office should be questioned. If someone will be dishonest in their personal life, there is a good chance they are dishonest in their professional one! Just my opinion..... Also, him throwing up his County ID card is so tacky to me!

That's a road you don't want to travel......... bout is correctly spelled but.......................... Judgemental is correctly spelled Judgmental................. Regreat is correctly spelled regret........................... You have incorrectly inserted an extra comma in a couple of your sentences, including surrounding "but" with commas............. You have incorrectly omitted commas when they should be inserted, specifically when there is a new thought or complete sentence after a conjunction such as "and"........... trying to be the grammar and spelling police, while you are breaking the laws you're trying to enforce, is a good example of why Fricks should no longer be a commissioner. Thank you for the wonderful simile. Or metaphor. ROFLMAO

Learning how to spell and type correctly would be a good thing for you to do, too. Should those who hold public office not be held to higher standards then the ordinary man on the street? These are the people who take an oath of office to uphold the law. I agree that no one is perfect and we all mess up but what would be my punishment if I drove with a suspended license (That I admittedly knew about), carried no proof of insurance in my vehicle which had a tag that was registered to another vehicle? What would be your punishment for the same "mess up"? Or are you one of the privileged ones who have a Floyd County ID that makes you immune from the same punishment I would receive? We might expect this from an illegal immigrant who is hiding from the law and stricter laws have just been passed to add harsher punishment for this, but this is a man who holds office in our county, what is he hiding from? Why should he not receive the same punishment that I would receive? Look at it this way, at least he won't be deported!

I saw this story on the RNT site yesterday and it is in today's paper. There's a headline on the top of the front page and big story inside. Anyone who looked at the paper would know this. I don't care about a guy driving with a suspended lisence, but people should know what they're talkin about before they spout off.

I did not grow up with Garry, however I did grow up with his younger brother. Everytime I ever saw him from when I was a child to when I was an adult, he always gave me the impression that he was better than everyone else and that his s**t had no odor. A person like that of course think he is above the law, whether he is a commissioner or not. He would pull the well my dad is "Bill Fricks" etc.....

I believe the watcher posted where Fricks took an oath and in that oath it stated that he was an employee. My question is since he is an employee, How many times did he drive a county vehicle with known suspended license? What would have happened if he would have been involved in a wreck?(no license = no insurance) If he was found at fault in a wreck who would have paid the claim? In this particular case I believe the county would have been in great debt. Any lawyer in the nation would be glad to handle a case like this.... Now that the county has been made aware even though R-NT seemed to have buried it in the (I hope no body reads this part section)... Is it now a Negligent Retention Issue? It seems to be evident that he knew his license were bad since he attempted to use his county ID to bypass a citation. Do you as voters think He should step down at this time.....? He is a public official once he knew his license were suspended then he should have made it known to the public he is suppose to serve NOT HIDE IT.... Negligence equals major law suits for the Tax Payer

Speaking from experience, I know how easy it is NOT to know your license is suspended. 100's of years ago (it seems), I went to get mine renewed and when I did I was informed it was suspended. Thankfully, I had a licensed driver with me. Apparently, the address the court had and my actual address was incorrect in terms of the number of the street address (the address it was mailed to was the 100 block and I lived in the 700 block). The ticket notice payment information was mailed to the wrong address. It took an attorney to locate all of this information, and to get it all cleared up. The ticket was from a trip through Tennessee about three years prior to being told it was suspended and it was for speeding about 11 miles over. The most amusing anecdote from my attorney, while clearing this matter up, was the court wanted me to travel to upper east side of Tennessee to appear in person to pay for it. My attorney knew that translated into "we want him to spend the weekend in jail" and quickly asked "how is he to travel there with his license is suspended?" Anyway, I paid the fine, showed it to the DMV in Dalton (I was chauffeured there) and everything was back to normal. Yeah, I can see how he didn't know it was suspended, at first. But to admit he knew his license was suspended and didn't take care of it, I find negligible.
