our paper grows every week in circulation as we add more and more locations.

We are very lucky at The Newswire... we have been able to hire a circulation manager that came from a larger paper... (not the RNT) and he is very good at what he does. Our distribution is better now than it has ever been.

edited to add... but I would still like to have distribution in Wal-Mart.

Maybe if you wrote on the back of each page inespainal  they would change their minds.LOL

I wouldn't doubt it! Everything else you buy has Spanish instructions, most phone answering services requires '1' for English. Wonder why none of the answering services have us push 2 for German, 3 for Itilian, 4 for Portugese, etc..?  They need to print copies in Spanish especially for the Wal Mart in West Rome..

This forum has not exactly been kind to WALMART.Remember the front door donations thread, the greeter/door checker thread, and the infamous shrimp thread.Maybe they decided to get rid of all free periodicals to get rid of the RomeNewswire. And you guys please don't flame me on first amendmant rights.Iam just making an observation.;)

Don't worry DITR... I don't plan on flaming you at all. I think that this is a policy change that will affect Wal-Marts all across the country, not just the ones in the Rome area.

Furthermore, even though some of us here did have our rants against some of the things going on at Wal-Mart and openly complained here, the fact of the matter is that we were still at Wal-Mart spending our money there, when we noticed whatever it was at the time that bothered us.  So I am in disagreement with any idea that Wal-Mart might be "punishing" Wired posters, by not allowing placement of the Romenewswire. But that's just my viewpoint.

You are probably right.I did find it curious that you could still pickup a copy at the walmart in Centre.Perhaps they are in a different district.

I don't know if you are right or not but it's a pretty good observation. It seems to me that the criticism, even though it wasn't always kind, would have given them incentive to make some changes in the way they run their store. Getting rid of the paper is not going to improve the donation, door checker/greeter, or the cleanliness of the store problem. If they got rid of the papers for that reason, that is their prerogative. I don't think it will stop anyone from talking about thing they see that they believe are not being done correctly. Maybe if they addressed these problems they would start getting less negative free publicity.

I read a post about a checker at the East Rome Wal Mart holding up people leaving the store, and I remembered being in there once when this occurred. I live out of state and in all my trips to Wal Marts in different states, I have never seen anything like that happen! I was tempted to walk right around the clerk backing up exiting patrons, but decided I might need to stay 'in line' lest I get harassed for leaving the store without someone checking my purchases! At our local Wal Mart, if a clerk is busy checking a customer on their way out, we just walk around them and if the alarm doesn't go off, walk on out.

But, I believe the law states they must observe you completely outside the store with items you have not purchased, nor can show proof of purchase before they can arrest you for shoplifting. A clerk could get themselves and their company in deep deep trouble if they actually detained someone on the premise they had shoplifted with no actual proof they had indeed stolen anything!

This is a nation wide thing and has nothing to do with anything that happened here in Rome.

The directive came from Walmart international and pertained to their vestibule areas (the area between the doors). Some Walmarts have allowed the papers inside the stores and some have been more lax than others.

The one in Centre removed every paper(american classifieds, and others) but us and the Post.

The ones here in Rome have been taking us out and then allowing us back for a few months... apparently the district manager just finally said... everybody goes.

Shoplifting occurs at the moment of concealment, and yes, you can be detained before leaving the store.

My wife works for the Wal-Mart Corp. and I hate them, but please shop at Wal-Mart so I can retire early.

So you're saying that if my child picks up something and puts it in his pocket and I only discover it right before I check out, he is guilty of shoplifting? You can be detained momentarily before leaving the store, but you cannot be charged with shoplifting until you are found outside the store with the stolen products on your person, or so that's what I have been told.

Maybe it's just me, but I have never been detained (like I was at your east Rome store) before leaving Wal Mart! I have stopped and let the clerk verify my items when I have a large buggy full, but otherwise, they just motion me on through.

You can be charged as soon as you conceal the item in the state of ga.  Walmart has never done this but Kmart used to charge people all the time before they left the store.
